Tennis

New story saying he claims he tested positive of Covid on the 16th Dec but was seen out at presentations/events on the 16th and 17th Dec.

Also when did he submit his acceptance to appear at the Aus Open, I've read the cutoff was before he tested positive, something doesn't add up.
I believe his initial VISA was granted by Tennis Australia in November.

So under what rules were they giving him a visa? As he was neither vaccinated or caught covid then (according to him).

Tennis Australia almost come out of this looking worse than him (cos we already knew he was a **** before this and expected no better!) they were happy to bend over backwards to move the goalposts for one player.

Clearly this pretentious fool Novak is soo used to getting his own way, its caused a shockwave all the way back to his own country.

There should be only one outcome here, denied.

Would this mean, he would be added to the Aussie exclusion list, no entry for 3 years?

Reading everything it's irrelevant he's been granted a visa by tennis australia rules for having covid, as they do not supercede the Australia govt rules and his team have made a big old mess up of the situation either through arrogance or stupidity.

Honestly I can't stand the bloke due to his histrionics of the past long before his no vax comments and this situation. He's doing himself no favours for future tournaments either.

I really hope so. Would be amazing.

More tournaments should be requiring players to be double vax/booster.

We’re truly in the twilight zone, Farage has put a tweet out saying he’s with Djokovic’s family in Serbia waiting the result. I won’t link it cos I don’t want to give the absolute opportunist the traffic!

He’s supporting an Eastern European immigrant trying to circumvent a country’s immigration laws to gain entry…..

Just when you thought this world couldn’t get more crazy!

Lol, this is an absolutely **** poor argument.

Australia is already in the grip of an Omicron wave and seeing over 90,000 cases a day. Djokovic's entry hardly makes any difference, his lawyers said in their court documents

Does he actually pay these lawyers?

From reading the court report, a lot of his argument hinges on procedure not being followed by the ABF, and the judge is seeming to agree.. looks like he might get off on a technicality. Hopefully the government put in a decent argument and don't let that happen.

I'm more interested in whether he really tested positive for covid in Dec. That can be the only evidence he submitted in the very first place. I understand it's looked at by two different panels, but what do they actually see? A certificate and maybe a doctors note? You can easily buy these in some areas.

Djokovic’s dad has informed Serbian journalists he was re-arrested minutes after being released. Looks like Alex Hawke might be using his personal powers if true  I didn’t think he would as it has already caused a political row between here and Serbia and doing it again will inflame it even more

Even though I have no time for the guy at all the optics of detaining the guy for 5 days, letting him have an appeal which he won and then still playing the ‘we’ll kick you out anyway’ card are pretty awful for Aus.

This has turned into such a massive cluster for them.

The Australians are going to be furious. Their measures have been far far stricter than ours. I’d be surprised if they don’t kick him out and it may be for his own good, it would certainly be the popular move.

Isn't this what the Aus government is like though? Just look at the stories of the repatriation flights, and people stuck abroad. From the admittedly limited news I see on Aus the government doesn't often cover themselves in glory.

Melbourne has had the longest lockdown in the world. Must be plenty of frustration.

Djokovic arrested.

Father of Djokovic claims tennis player 'arrested'
The father of Novak Djokovic has told Sky News reporter Milena Veselinovic that his son has been "arrested" by the Australian Federal government.

Sky News has contacted Djokovic's Melbourne council to confirm these claims.

There is confusion over the exact situation however, as his brother Djordje Djokovic told Serbian local media that the tennis champion is currently with his lawyers.

The family has allegedly received information that the Australian authorities want to detain him.
