TERA release date announced.

Sneak peek is for press and key winners from various MMO sites only (like me :D).

Only heard about this a few days ago - whats so different about this one?

Only that there are so many keys that they may as well have made it an open sneak peak -- plenty still to go around if people are trying this today -- it is a 20GB download though, so you're going to miss the start if you haven't got the besterest connection :(

So what makes the mmo so different to other mmos, is it worth me getting excited about?

If I remember correctly, this MMO has an aiming system which means instead of standing in one place spamming abilities you have to move around dodging enemy attacks and hitting them.

If done correctly it could be very, very good. However looking at how poor most of the recent MMO's have been, it is still a very big if.

I just read the faq on their website the combat and political system sounds pretty interesting. Also they recommend playing the game with a controller. That sounds really good, i can just sit back in the chair and relax.

It's a very interesting move though by NCSoft, I mean the game as been out in Korean for nearly a year now and nothing has ever been mentioned in regards to something like this at least not to the public anyway, I still think it's to do with the release of GW2.

If you bothered to read the link prison sentences and big fines have been handed out but seemingly under appeal in Korea, and in Japan they were initially found guilty but it was then overturned.

It seems pretty OTT of them, yeah. I can see their point and I'm sure there is some truth to what they're saying (employees leaving and taking ideas, possibly code/content with them) but at the end of the day it all seems a bit tantrum-y of NCSoft.

IT doesn't seem OTT or tantrum-y AT ALL.

You PAY people UNDER CONTRACT to work on a game, half way through half of them walk out and make an almost identical game... but because they took the right half of people AND planned it so had the rest of the team they needed up and running quickly then finish the game and release first.

Release code and a game they obtained illegally, stole data they weren't allowed to take, and used idea's that were legally NCSoft's.

That isn't tantrum-y at all, that is simply theft, fraud, malicious and completely and mind bogglingly illegal.

Any company that suffered the same would go after people that stole data/idea's off them, full stop, let alone if they then also released a directly competitive product using all the same idea's.

Compare it to another game, WOW, how many billions later, what if half the team for 6 months worked on patches, bug fixing, improvements, but only showed part of that work to "the bosses" then walked out essentially with vs 0.9 of WOW while leaving essential 0.5 with Blizzard, and the "new" company took the almost finished product, released 6 months before Blizzard, and then someone released a carbon copy of WoW 6 months later. blizzard would have paid for and had ALL the work done for the game, and someone stole it, released it, took all the profits and made their clone look like a joke.

Why do people insist on talking about this lawsuit? It doesn't mean jack, stop acting like you know what it means it doesn't make you sound smart. The actual 'code' that was 'stolen' was never even used and NCSOFT are known for their dirty tricks.

Sounds like a great idea on paper, but will turn out to be a whole lot of fun for kiddos with lag boxes..

I'm tempted. Been following bits on and off since it's inception, but not for many months. Looks like it could be fun - apologies if not allowed, but where can I pre-order?

Edit - I mean cheaper than the main site or is that the only one?

To preorder the Digital version from them, you have to pay upfront for a game that isn't out for 3 months. No thanks. They've sat on their hands for a long time with the 'localisation', and now they want money before the game is even out. I might pick this up at some point as I was following it, but eh, it's left a bad taste in the mouth.

Anyone know if i can get hold of a code from somewhere? it looks interesting but everywhere seems to have run out of them. Thanks.

The last sentence is COMPLETELY irrelevant, there is no dirty trick. If you work for someone, sign a contract and produce content that company OWNS IT, when you take it, if they planned to use it or planned to burn every hard drive with a trace of data on it, its theirs.

Leaving a company and taking their data and making a game based on it, is simple so far from "right" its laughable.

After the debacle with the sneak peak i doubt i'll be pre-ordering this game or buying it on launch day. Seems a wise move to wait and see what happens :/

I am playing a ranger right now, seems pretty good so far. It's only a sneak peak, so servers shouldn't be up to much longer.

Played a warrior up to the current level cap. After the problems of the initial sneak peak, I've been pleasantly surprised by the game. It's very pretty, and I'm very much enjoying the action combat style.
