Terraria - Dig, fight, explore, build

Don't grief other people's builds.
Do not use dynamite at all (will be running TMod soon which will mean dynamite = insta ban).
Don't take anything from other people's chests.
Create a new character and don't bring items from other servers/single player.
The usual one about racist/homophobic/etc language.

Cool. I played on the OcUK MC server for a bit, similar rules there. When I said beginner I mean REAL beginner. Never played it, do you recommend SP first (is there even a SP mode?) to get to grips with it or just jump straight in MP.

FrenchTart any chance of a high level server aswell as this new one?

Perhaps a rule that if you end up with a certain gear/power that you must use the other server?

MP is way more fun but if you jump on an established server (even one only 'established' yesterday) you'll probably miss out on lots of the magic of playing the game fresh. If you can possibly do it I would recommend getting one or two friends together and playing the game on a private MP server between you.

You're more than welcome to jump on to the OcUK server and I'm sure it'll be great fun and a good way to learn how to play the game, but you'll be playing it in an accelerated way, meaning less hours of enjoyment/the game seeming 'new'.

Doesn't matter really, will be harder in SP but you'll have more chance of finding stuff obviously.

Can be nice starting in multiplayer because others can help you out, give you tips with where to start

Yeah, I said a few posts back that if there was demand from a few players that I'd be happy to run a higher level server too.

I've just donated to the TMod developer so I should hopefully have a linux server soon. Once that is done I could run potentially 10+ servers on my proper linux dedi. If/when I do this I'll probably run a few all with different rules sets and setup an IRC bridge between them all.

Though you should probably check out the wiki first so you know where to start off with your house. Once you've got somewhere to cower from zombies over night you can start to ease yourself forward.
So I agree with FT that you might want to do some SP really unless you really want to jump on the server.

I guess we need to work on the Eye of Cthulhu tonight so we can get some purification powder. I did find some Corruption to the right but its a LONG way. 2 small stretches of desert, 2 small stretches of woodland, a huge stretch of desert and a small bit of woodland. Its about 4000ft away from spawn.

I would really like a high level server tbh. So count me in. An IRC bridge would be neat-o!

Lol, you could make a Gauntlet over the spawn point :p

Fill it with spikes from the dungeon and lava baths and Ebonstone to spawn Eaters and Hellstone. The 1 rule is no modifying the area (so no placing or removing items) so you need good enough gear to enter the server :D

Yep!, that's what we tried to do before which took hours of hard work from myself and a number of others which some here have forgot already. I'm such a bad person :p

I don't see what's wrong with building a horizontal tunnel or a hellvator? I've been using them to find new caverns/ore/chests. When I first logged on there were a few people who had been digging down together, but when I said that I needed some help getting to them nobody said anything, so I went my own way instead.

I am happy to help if you see me online :)

Has the password changed since last night? Either that or I forgot it lol.

Remembered it after various variations. :)

Cool. :)

As for Neil79, I was having food when the goblin invasion started, which was at night, I didn't think that the battle standard could summon goblin invasions at any time, I thought it would only work at dawn, or at least the army would appear at dawn. I asked if an admin had done it, and somebody said it was Neil. It was after that I saw Neil come online, according to my chat window at least, so I assumed he was an admin doing it from outside the game. I've now realized that even if he was an admin, he'd still have to be in-game to use his admin powers anyway, as only the server host can issue commands through the tMod application AFAIK.

Anyway I don't think it's that big of a deal now, I only did when I thought he had admin rights and was grieving. Though it wasn't only Shamikebab that didn't like it, I didn't, I'm not sure if Evilsod said he wasn't happy with it or not, can't remember. Josh said afterwards that he thought he was out of line too, so it's not just Shamikebab.

Even though it's a server for new chars, people who spend more time playing will progress faster than those who don't. So whenever you get given your reward for donating to Tmod, FrenchTart, it might be a good idea to have a server for new chars, that people agree on a time to join it? That way people can progress together properly.
