I have a question regarding the ocean biome. I can't find an answer on google. Somebody drained most of the ocean on the western side of the map. I've read that you cannot recreate an ocean elsewhere, the game code will not allow sharks or coral to spawn anywhere that is more than a certain distance away from the edge of the map (250 blocks I think).

What I was wondering, was if you were to put more water into the existing ocean, would sharks/coral spawn there? That way the ocean could in theory be repaired to the way it was before the drainage.

Anybody have an answer to that?

Based on what you said, yes, you can just pour water back into the edges of the map and sharks/coral will spawn there.
It's not like they become extinct.

I'm going to try refilling the ocean up. Please, nobody destroy the giant water generator i am trying to create. Hopefully the generators still work like they did in 1.0.4 (I haven't tried since), and hopefully they work even when you cannot see the water on your screen.

This generator is going to be 250 blocks wide, hopefully it will work. Might be a huge disappointment!

My char's name is Mr Popo btw. I ran out of blocks to use and have none on my SP world, so have bought tonnes of dynamite to get some more blocks on my SP world. Be back in a bit guys

Btw: If anybody has spare blocks they could give to help towards the generator, that'd be awesome. This will need thousands!

Latest info regarding 1.06 and beyond.

I tried to take some time off several times since release, but I usually end up getting bored and wanting to work on Terraria anyway. Lately, I've actually been spending some time to play the game, which is something I don't do often enough. Other than a complete overhaul of the magic system, there really isn't anything too interesting to talk about right now. 1.0.6 will mostly be small tweaks and changes in preparation for the big 1.1 update.

I don't want to give to many spoilers, but there are going to be a series of events that add several new ores(yes, cobalt is one of them), a new biome that we've dubbed as "the anti-corruption," and at least one new boss. The entire world will be put in to hard mode, and fighting back the corruption will be a lot more involving/rewarding. You'll probably want to avoid this unless you don't mind the possibility of your town being destroyed during invasions. >:|

My overall goal for 1.1 is to add a lot more character/world progression and provide some actual end game content. Hopefully after seeing how it turns out, you guys will cut me a bit of slack for the rocket boot change, haha. This is all quite a ways out, though.

We are staying a bit more hushed about 1.0.6 than previous updates. But theres good stuff on the way. Dungeons getting some love.

Apart from taking some time to walk my dog later, I shall be seeing the generator through the night until it is finished. I will not use it until someone is online who can record it, two people preferred.

Please, nobody use the generator unless there is a person at the top and a person at the bottom to film together.

At the moment, the area that I am working on is around 100 blocks wide, so we have done the majority of the work. Shouldn't be too long now, an hour, hour and a half maybe.
