I fought EoW for the first time, spawned him, magic mirrored home, waited for him to arrive.....about 20 seconds later "EOW has been defeated"
As I said above, if you leave the corruption area he'll "die" which is basically him despawning

Its a very glitchy boss it seems. First time I fought him half of him had vanished when he got back to me, then after I died he randomly died too after I respawned.
Ah **** I found my Sapphires. I'd left them in another storage chest instead of the one I keep my gems in ><
Full Jungle set now. Its almost impossible to run out of mana while spamming Vilethorn now. Completely impossible if I also use a Starband.

Just sat down with this game for a quick "what's all this about then?" test.
Quite enjoyed it, although I can see that it could be quite a bit more fun with friends.
Did a tiny bit of exploring and found potions that do stuff, cobwebs and an enchanted boomerang to replace.
Then I was killed by a bat... The shame.
Seems like it could be a bit of a time-sink but there's heaps I need to learn. I like that it has enchanted weapon/potion drops, it's something that I would like to see in Minecraft. A bit of an RPG element.
Will have to check out OcUK server some time.
Edit: Oh, whilst I am on basic equipment... What is the best strategy to defeat the worms? I always lose sight of them and don't know how to end their bitter evilness.

Wish I had started with a larger world with my first game - started off with small, but only have found 3 floating islands. Some excellent goodies on them

Right, so...got my golden pickaxe but gold seems to be the highest tier of metal I can find (and it's very scarce at that =/). What should I be looking for in terms of a better pickaxe to get through ebonstone?

You need molten or nightmare pickaxe, check the terraria wiki for details.

How do you even find them? Short of a skybridge or shooting randomly into the air.

I found my first one by building a tower up from my house, jumping right and getting very lucky 
Haven't found any others, if they're at the same height then I suppose I could just build across from that one.

You could use the map viewer i linked somewhere further up the thread. But yes other than that you just have to go explore the skys xD

Skybridge - have connected all 3 with a skytunnel and linked it up with my house. All 3 were at the same height, so actually not too bad to find.
Working on my enclosed tunnel to hell at the moment. Hoping to like up to the bottom - about 3/4 of the way down, but keep sidetracking!
