Terraria - Dig, fight, explore, build

Finished what I can with my mine to hell. Need a nightmare pickaxe next - best way to go about getting this? Head to corruption?

Summon the eye of Cthulhu to get demonite ore. Go to the corruption to destroy orbs to summon the eater of worlds. He will drop demonite ore, shadow scales and one piece of nightmare armour.

Make sure to take purification powder and dynamite to access the orbs.

Not sure of how to progress, gold is apparantly the best you can make for the basic stuff. Any suggestions?

Hunt for better weapons. Enchanted boomerang is good for the eye bit but when he turns to a mouth it becomes less useful. Something like a trident is very useful for that. Just hunt underground for chests for a while.

Yes
No - but you'll spawn at the same point in that map every time (usually right in the middle, horizontally). Create a safe house (with a bed) means you can spawn closer to your favourite mining area, etc.
There's a spawn point in each world. Worlds aren't linked in any way AFAIK.

Excellent that was my understanding, so I am not too far off :)

So do you guys basically have an awesome 'Home' world with all kinds of cool buildings then just go rape other worlds for materials? :)

Noooooo, My house! I have spent most of the 42 hours playing this game doing that. :(

Whats happened to it?

Thanks, digging a tunnel to corruption :) - keeping an eye out for chests and more gold too.

Edit: Would really appreciate a nightmare axe if anyone has one that they dont use anymore!

Flibby: Once you beat the Eye of Cthulhu, a new NPC will move in to your house called the Dryad. She sells an item called purification powder, which will allow you to dig through the ebonstone in the corruption area. In the corruption area you will find containers named shadow orbs, you can use a hammer to smash the orbs, they contain useful weapons. Once you had destroyed 3 orbs, the Eater of Worlds will spawn. The ore and shadow scales that he drops can be used to make a nightmare pickaxe, among other things. You could buy a load of dynamite to blow through the ebonstone if you are unable to beat the Eye of Cthulhu to get the Dryad NPC.

If you want a hand with the Eye of Cthulhu, I can come help as long as you host the server. I have always used shirkens to defeat him on a fairly new character. If you're good at aiming, you have a decent chance at killing him before morning break using shurikens.

I have a full set of silver armor, and all gold weapons (still need more gold to make a gold chest + helmet), but I still have a lot of difficulty with hornets in the jungle areas where I'm trying to find upgrades and even jungle equips.

What am I meant to use against hornets? The Gold Broadsword really doesnt work.

The Eye of Cthulhu randomly spawned, but I don't have anything much at the moment that can do too much damage (might try some dynamite if he appears again). So I saved and exited.

Will he spawn again randomly?

Has anyone else noticed that when you spawn in your house, you destroy 3 of the wooden floor pieces when you "pop"?

Happens to me every time. Will this stop if I change the structure to stone?

Getting addicted to this quite easily now. :)

Bought a copy for me and the wife, and last night I ran the world I'd created as a server which she was able to join easily. After playing around for an hour or so, she left and I quit the game but didn't see the same "saving world" notification that I do when quitting single player. Will it stay persistent with the changes we've made when running as a server?

If I leave things in the chest at our house when running as a server, then launch the same World in single player, will my chest-stored items still be there?

The spawn problem is likely because you have not created a bed in your home, so you are spawning at the original spawn point. The game forces you to spawn exactly where you first started in the game, and your house sounds like it's in the way slightly. If you build a bed and put it in your house, right click it, and when you die, or log on, you will spawn at the bed. That should stop the blocks getting destroyed. :)

When playing on a server, I believe that the game will save changes as they happen, and they will effect the map both in single player and in multiplayer.

If you leave items in a chest in a multiplayer server, they should also be in the same chest if you play the map in single player. If you take the item out in single player, then the item should also have gone from the multiplayer server.

Hope that helps. :)

Edit: If you want to create a bed, then I believe all that you need is wood, silk (created from cobwebs), and a workbench. Right clicking the bed will set it as your new spawn point. You will get a yellow message in the bottom left area of your screen if it has set correctly. :)

Thanks a ton mate; very helpful! :)

I found a few cobwebs but only managed to make (I think) one piece of silk. Not quite enough for a bed it appears. Now I just have to resist playing this and Frozen Synapse in different windows when I should be working to meet deadlines in the evenings!
