Test Drive Unlimited 3 is officially being made :)

I agree it was so beautiful cruising with a custom mp3 radio station. Forza is nice but hasn't got the same mountainous flow to it. Hard to describe.

I remember the horror of young me installing TDU off cds then on boot: Invalid boot.ini file, and I was so confused and then realised on forums that this was a known bug in the installer!
Had to use bootcfg /rebuild command thanks TDU :D I don't think I installed 2 but if they are onto 3 now I hope they don't get that wrong again i don't think they'd ever hear the end of it it peoples pcs were corrupted again.

Not an uncommon one back then - Eve Online did a similar thing and killed a lot of people Windows installs ( https://www.eveonline.com/news/view/about-the-boot.ini-issue ).

When you think the vaporware started taking shape, you see a recycled TDU2 using the same car models from the old game..

To be honest I'd be perfectly happy with a game which basically just took the stuff from TDU2 but updated it graphics and mechanics wise.

This does seem to be moving in the right direction. That Alpha footage looks quite pretty nice now and the best thing is I instantly got that TDU feeling from it which for my retro tinted glasses is perfect as of they updated and put servers up for 1 again I would play it to death!

@willhub so many great memories of just cruising around the map for like a whole evening at 50-60mph lol

yeah , it had the TDU 2 vibe to it, indicating, lights on and off etc,
but i know its apha footage, but it felt like it was still TDU 2 but updated a little, didnt feel "smooth" enough etc to feel like a 2023/2024 game

I'd be OK with that if the price was right. TDU2 was a great game after it was patched to a playable state (it was released as an early alpha, 0.6.1 IIRC, and the release day version was literally unplayable as it couldn't connect to the servers). I remember some entertaining hours scouring the gameworld for parts for a Lancia Stratos and then just driving it about for fun.

I know it was great, there isn't any other game where it just feels good to cruice at 60mph, I've tried it in The Crew (size of the map you'd think it would be fun) but no, I felt the handling in TDU H mode was really good, realistic or not I don't know but it needed a bit of thought was opposed to going round corners at 200mph.

The new Crew Motor something-or-other game from Ubisoft gives me TDU 2 vibes especially as it's set on Oahu.

The settings for TDU2, Oahu and Ibiza are hard to beat IMO - both offering a range of roads, chilled atmosphere and great scenery, maybe missing some proper mountain roads though the Kolekole "pass" and the roads around there offers something there. HK is nice and all but doesn't have the vibe which the settings in TDU2 have.

Thoroughly agree with that. Driving on Ibiza when the sun is setting and the dance tunes on the radio makes something really special. I feel like I’ve already played this new game just by virtue of driving round HK in Sleeping Dogs.
