Am I being blind, is there seriously an option for enabling and disabling auto clutch, but no ability to turn off automatic gear shifting?! Good thing they've got controls for important abilities in a driving game like "stand on tiptoes"

IIRC you have to go into each car setting and enable or disable semi-automatic to enable or disable manual gears. (Escape menu, cars, driving assists).

Ah yeh, got it. Turned all the driving aids off, which exposed how crap the driving physics are when trying to slide, just feels utterly disconnected.
Visuals look acceptable at some points, but muddy as hell with poor view distances in other places. Performance isn't great either.

On the plus side. It's a demo, so I didn't have to spend on money to find out it's trash.

The upgrades seem to make a bit of a difference - I think some of the handling is exaggerated bad with stock parts to make upgrades more of a thing. The driving model is a bit odd - feels like it has been optimised around console controllers at the expense of wheel and actually plays quite well on keyboard but leaves something to be desired on wheel, especially tight turns just feel like the car is doing its own thing.

Visuals very mixed bag, overall not terrible but some noticeable low res at times but worse everywhere, at least around the initial demo area, just has this bland generic feel without the sense of identity TDU 1/2 has.

somebody was saying something about tyres

your stock tyres are "all season" tyres not summer tyres, when you reach level 15 rep, you can then get off road tyres, you need to get to 25 rep to get semi slicks
From my experience the driving model is just flawed, it lacks weight and feel. Like the higher spec cars just have their grip value increased compared to the lower spec ones. Upgrades may help keep some of the wonkiness in check, but I don't think it will do anything more than paper over some of the cracks.

When I drove the Corvette and GTR I thought it felt better at first, but mashing the steering at full speed and seeing that they just did a weird snaking maneuver without losing control was just odd.

They desperately need to work on the controller feedback, compared to something like Forza where I can feel everything through the triggers, it's a big difference.

Why did they have to go and ruin this,
TDU when it came out was the best,
Being able to cruise with mates, meet up and randomly race.

Still need to try the demo to really form an opinion, but the vid by MRK has got me thinking pass :(

Frame generation works fairly well - goes from 70-80 FPS when driving to a fairly solid 120 (and feels around 100) and unlike an FPS game artefacts are more hidden by motion blur, etc. still doesn't feel like a higher FPS any time it dips though despite what it might display, but that happens pretty rarely when driving.

They need to do a ton of work on the car physics/handling though - fast approach into a corner get the back out a bit, not proper drifting but fine tuning the rotation through the corner, and it gets very weird and nothing like a car would handle at all and very disconnected from the controls.

Biggest complaint though still is that everywhere just looks so generic and samey.

Not writing it off yet but it needs quite a bit of work and/or I hope the final product is much updated in some areas compared to the demo.

I've been dipping in and out of the demo and TDU2 (which I've not played in awhile) over the last couple of days and TDU2 I just enjoy much more even just jumping in aimlessly it is fun for a bit, they really need to do a lot of work compared to where the demo is at least.

Tried to meddle with TDU2 in RTX Remix but it doesn't seem to really support the game yet, can't do a proper scene capture, etc. to start changing stuff.
