*** The 2010 Gym Rats Thread ***

Haha DK has the squat and I have the Deadlift, together we make the real alpha male.

Sorry FF, but you need to work harder to push us away from the top. We're slowly moving up.

:D :D :D

Indeed. Power to weight ratio wise, you guys have me over a barrel. Really impressive lifting. I need to drop some weight to catch up basically :D Hmmm a cut version of me.... nah, I like my food too much! :D

DK you rock dude. I can't believe you were the podgy kid that came up to me a few years ago asking for help, and now you're this amazing powerlifter. I'm so impressed. I really am. :)

I almost always avoid arm wrestles unless absolutely forced to and even then I'll only do it if I think I can win easily. Launching straight into a maximum effort, endurance challenge without any warmup etc just always leaves my shoulder or elbow sore.

Whenever people challenge me it turns out to be 4 people vs me :( Stupidly I try and fight the inevitable (i.e. I'm going to lose) as long as possible, and hold out for 30s or so before being vanquished - but then am in pain because of my stupid ego :o

I dont think ive ever won an arm wrestle. My technique is poor :(

Well I managed to win but I had my arm extended and the other lad was close to his chest so he could use his body too, it is killing right near the bone I wonder if I have pulled something as I cannot lift anything, even shutting and opening a door I cannot manage. Hmmmmmm :( Never doing these again.

Diet was pretty poor today, spent most of the day cycling/walking around handing out CV's and applying for every job i could find. Got back and couldnt help but have a glass of coke and an icecream :o Ah well i got a fair amount of cardio.

Also off to the pub tonight but dont plan on drinking much, dont want to be feeling crap for back/bicep day tomorrow

I avoid arm wrestles for fear of doing my rotator cuffs in.

I'd rather just challenge the person to a contest as to who can put the other person on the floor first via shoving/dump tackling :p

OT:

I mentioned about setting up my own powerrack & olympic weights so that I could squat at home.

The time has come! :D

I've popped into Powerhouse Fitness and checked out the rack and left some details for a member of staff to contact me and give me a price with a quote. I was getting them to pricematch fitness-superstore.co.uk as they are cheaper for weights by a fair bit, I also initially wanted some cable attachments and a weights tree.

I waited 3 days for him to eventually email me a quote in which he had pricematched cast iron weights for the price of the rubber versions  (so a 20Kg plate was £34 instead of £28) I realised I wouldn't be able to use the pulley attatchment I was buying with the powerrack so decided to ditch the cable attatchments for the meantime. I also enquired as to whether they could provide a deal for me on rubber matting and also to provide pictures of the weights they had quoted for as it was a style not listed on the site.

Another 4 days passed, he had pricematched correctly this time, he had however not removed the cable attatchments nor mentioned anything about matting and seemed quite keen for me to 'Proceed with the order'.

Needles to say I'm not particulary impressed with this particular individual especially as I was planning on spending several hundred pounds with them. I'm quite impatient and I get quite wound up when people don't listen and are just bothered by getting a sale!

I'm still buying the rack with pulley attatchment & dip bars from them, but will be getting weights, matting and a weights tree from fitness-superstore instead. Hopefully they can do a slightly better deal if I mention powerhouse fitness have pricematched them.

I'm really tempted to get proper olympic colour coded, rubber coated plates but can get 100KG of extra weight for the same price as a 160KG kit so think I'll stick with standard cast iron for now! Eleiko plates & bar would go down nicely if anybody fancies giving me several thousand pounds! :p

If anybody has any codes/coupons for PHF I would very much appreciate if you would be kind enough to spread the love! :)

I decided to try and catch my iPhone on the bridge of my foot as it was falling off my desk last night, that hurt and was no where near 25KG! Almost lost my toes to a slippery 20KG.

Nothing like screaming **** me at the top of your voice in a David Lloyd gym packed:D, I was alright just a little bruised and tender for a day or two.

Back in the UK now and forgot to convert my weights in my book from pounds to kg. Stood in the Gym scratching my head trying to convert what I had been doing in lbs to the kg weights they have in the gym back here at home. Not easy when you have a sweat on and a light head :D

Ugh, so I've been on holiday abroad for 2 weeks (so each body part has had roughly 2.5 weeks off, and diet has been pretty crappy) and it feels like I've gone back in time 6 months.

Aside from the truly crippling doms that have lasted 3 days so far, I feel like a weakling! As an example, I can normally manage 38kg dumbell chest press for at least 2 sets of 8 and failure throughout the 3rd... today, couldn't even get them up. Down to 36, managed 5, down to 34, managed 7. It didn't even feel taxing, I just couldn't find the strength to move them!

Please tell me this isn't permenant and I don't have to genuinely earn that strength back?!

I noticed a strength drop after I had a few weeks of training in my first year.

It's perfectly normally and will take 3-4 weeks to get back to where you were I found.

Further more I wouldn't jump straight back in at the weights I was doing before as you'll be asking for a strain/injury.

For example if I'm repping 200KG for deadlifts and then have 6 weeks off from deadlifting for what ever reason, I'd spend extra time warming up and do more feeler sets to see what level of strength & weight I think is suitable to use/attempt. Just because I did it a month ago doesn't always mean I'll be able to do it again!

You might just find you had an off day as well. Or subconsiously did yourself over and psyched yourself out.

Thanks benny. It's hard not to jump straight back into my old routine, but as I've found my body has other ideas so I'll just do what feels comfortable for the next few weeks and go from there. Massive suckage, still, won't be planning any more 2 week holidays this year at least!

I have dropped both a rubber and non rubber 25 kilo plate on my foot, I know which one I preferred!

Read this before leaving this morning and jinxed myself. Finger slipped when picking a 10kg off the floor and squashed my middle finger. Swearing ensued.

However had a great session especially deadlifts. Cracked out 2x90kg :D
Weighing in at 67.7kg.

You'll probaly find you'll push through any plateus if you've had a few weeks off.

Hate hate hate it! when fingers get pinched between plates when loading up a bar!
