*** The 2010 Gym Rats Thread ***

Probs be doing a back work out tomorrow..... When doing wide grip pull ups, should I be lifting with the bar going behind my head? Would that benefit my back muscles more, or stick to doing it the 'normal' way seeing as I'm quite the beginner?

Think its meant to put more strain on rotator cuff with bar behind your head. Id stick to normal.

Did some more DL's tonight, actually did slightely more than 50KG tonight as the weights were 50kg then the bar is like a couple, no idea though.

Is the bar the typical olympic bar? If so, it's quite a lot more than a "couple", it's 20kg!:p

Your lifts sound more impressive if you include the 20kg bar, which is standard practice.:)

Ah believe me, I wish that it was an olympic bar! That's my next purchase...but I need a spare £150/200 for a decent 100kg set...And currently after rent and bills I have about £200 'spare' to by shopping and everything else that happens in a month. :(

So i'm hoping I get some random bargain from somewhere....Doubtfull though :(

All in all I think it ads to about 52.5kg...Which for me Is ok I think, only started them three weeks ago :)

I'd honestly expect any sort of barbell to weigh at least 8KG, I'd see a 2.5KG one as being really "mickey mouse". :p

It is micky mouse, the whole set is 50kg, yet their isn't 50kg's of weight there, so it's no more than 3/4kg :p

It's a cheap set to get me going, but alas I already need more weight and a proper bench / squat...As I can't improve on my squats and bench untill then :(

Same, gave myself a rest for a week and came back with only 60% of the normal weight I was using, but I did 15 reps extremely slowly on the way down. My chest burned like hell, much more than normally pumping out 85kg!

I sometimes feel that a lower weight but a few more 'controlled' reps is the way forward for me...But i'll mix and match as it comes down to it :)

Good session last night, chest day! All with dumbells, being freshers i've been out with uni friends drinking a lot, but lifts still went up this week

Flat 3x8 - 40kg each hand
Incline 3x8 - 40kg each hand
Decline 1x8 1x5 1x4 - 84kg total (Barbell)
Flat Flys 3x8
Dips w/ 18kg's inbetween my legs 3x8

Chest feels like someone has been thrashing it with razor blades, LOVE IT!

Yeah I'll be doing these for 2 or 3 weeks to ease my elbows into routine again. I don't want to whack up the weight and realise I need even more time off to let them heal.

Hi, does anyone know a good resource where I can find recipe ideas for body building? Just trying to get my diet right, I know what I should be eating, but struggling with actual recipe ideas because I seem to be eating the same things week on week.

Thanks
