*** The 2010 Gym Rats Thread ***

If by tank you mean chieftan, then yeah you might be right. :p

Though gains are nice, it's having to adjust to all the eating that's awkward, all clean of course. ;)

Chest is looking lovely, i really can't wait till feb/march when i decide to cut for the summer. :D

No I meant the member here ^tank^, who is significantly bigger than 15 stone :p

No idea. But he is huge and lifts very heavy stuff, so is more likely to be intimidating than someone who is 15 stone ( unless the 15 stone guy has silly low bodyfat and a bad attitude :p )

you dont need to be big to be intimidating, it does help though.

appearance and attitude all have a part to play.

i know a builder who is tiny (way smaller than 6 foot) has big arms though which are covered in a billion scruffy looking tattoo's.

looking at him you would be intimidated, until you get to know him, extremely nice guy, top bloke.

That's why a few of us have said it was more likely his attitude when he said it was about his side :p

Yeah great exercise, hammer curls help as well.

Do any of you find folk get a bit intimidated if you're a big boy.

Went into tesco for some shopping, and i felt sorry for the checkout girl. She was shaking like a rabbit until i chirped up and got all friendly with her, guess too many folk read up on raoul moat sigh.

she could have been feeling cold.

you said she was quite small, and small people tend to have poor blood circulation/low amount of fat to keep them warm, if they are skinny.

my fiancée is a size 6/8 depending on the type of clothing and feels cold all the time.

And hux talking to her warmed her up and stopped the shaking? I think that deserves a "get in there my son..."

I'm really not sure what has been going on over the past page or so, the girl might have been shaking for a number of reasons, she may even have been intimidated but it's pretty tangenital to the idea of this thread I'd have thought which is just to discuss general gym stuff.

This one time I went to tesco and everyone quivered in fear. True story.

:p Its still a struggle to walk for me today from fridays leg session and getting out of my chair last night was worse than squatting 100kg lol.

what are your opinions on foam pads for squats?

i was told they are a waste of time and cause the bar to slip on your back.

but after yestarday's squatting session, i have noticed my back feeling sore to touch (above the shoulder blades where the bar was resting) when pressed in.

what would you recommend to try and prevent this, or is it something that i have to live with.

Has anyone tried getting on the Ripsaw at Alton Towers? i must have been surviving on literally millilitres of air, that chest thing panned me down! (48-49" chest). My mate whos a 52" chest couldn't get on lol they had to stop it.

if you have big legs, try using a dodgem.

my knees were crushed up against the "dashboard".

basically my shins/knees were being used as a shock absorber for every crash.

never again. i was in pain for days

normally known as sissy/pussy pads try changing the position of the bar on your back.

I wouldn't bother.

If you have the bar in the correct place it shouldn't be uncomfortable at all. You might find you need some more back/trap mass in which case you need to get lifting.

A towel round the bar may help a little but anymore and it will slip off the shelf created by your shoulder blades & rear delts.

Try popping your rear delts (shoulders back a bit more and have your chest out).

You should find when the bar is actually sitting correctly it's further back and lower down on your back than with any form of pad. As such your center of gravity changes and there's less stress on your spinal errectors and the whole lift becomes easier.

I was more expecting a "smash her pasty" than anything else, good job it's tesco's not asda eh :p

Could be my attitude, i can be a miserable bugger at times. :D

Anyhoo im just happy i didn't cheat today, there was a meat feast pizza in the local co-op calling my name mmmm

As for bf err id say around 20% i was 13st odd and skinny as anything not too long ago :o

Anyway, has anyone tried fat gripz, really curious as my forearms have been lacking.

Psycho Sonny, how wide a grip on the bar do you use when squatting? If you move it in a little, your lower traps (I believe) seem to contract a little more so there's more muscle for the bar to rest on. I find it a lot more comfortable at least.

Fat Gripz are pretty decent. I got a pair a while ago, used them for a lot of exercises. Bench press becomes much more difficult, so you'll have to lower the weight a fair bit. They're good for pullups too, but again you won't be able to shift the same amount of weight as before. They're excellent at building up wrist strength, but don't use them all the time because your lifts will suffer and as such the main muscles you're supposed to be working won't be getting the stimulation they require to grow.
