Seasoned? Just a beginner! I guess 18s are to much will probably try 12s then for now.
Get some adjustables and start light. I started with 6's I think. Not that I found them tough but I wanted my form and technique to be correct. Also if you do tip over one way the less weight you have the less risk of injury there is. So while you still make errors the less weight that's available to hit you should you drop it the better.
Can anyone recommend some decent adjustables on a budget then? I do have a gym membership but wouldn't feel right doing some TGU's and other exercises at the gym.
Find space on a mat and get on with it tbh. After a few weeks people will be asking you what the hell you are doing
This.
I found I moved around so much when I was doing them at the gym. And as you never take your eye off the DB/KB you're unaware of this so will more than likely end up against a wall or trying to lye back down and hit it head first.
The arm must be kept perfectly straight and perpendicular to the floor. Thing with light weights is that it's easy for the arm to shift. You really have to twist around it's great fun and I do quite miss them!
I started a thread here somewhere about them. I might have linked some decent tutorials. I'd recommend starting with a DB/KB windmill to get the idea of how the arm must stay perpendicular at all times. This is a more direct core exercise and hamstring stretch. You can do single overhead, single underhead and double windmills (one in each hand )
