*** The 2010 Gym Rats Thread ***

Had the pleasure of sharing the gym with a charming chap today. After every set he kept walking over to the mirror and checking himself out, lifting up his top and checking his abs out

Then he'd kept saying "My chest is ******** pumped man! ******* pumped!!!", "Oh man feels so tight, ripped!"

Was the lulz, was a bit like Brucey out of GTA4

sounds like zyzz

Well done, but I don't understand how you managed to smash a PB by 30kg in one go. I usually break PB's every workout by 2.5kg's but 30kg in one go is insane. Especially for 5 reps too.

Neither do I, but I felt possessed when doing it. I doubt I'll be straight back to 180kg again in the new year, and my legs feel like mince meat this morning (as do my traps from the bar!)

I've been concentrating a lot on improving form these past few months, more so than power, so probably could have increased the weight a lot before now. :)

I had to cancel my phsio appointment that i had to wait for over two months for cause my car wouldnt start yesterday (Was -14 when i tried)

So now have to wait till like January the 17th or something =/...Which i'm not even sure i can do as i'll be at work

I'd pull a sicky if I were you pal.

I got a PB deadlift yesterday, 170kg @ 81kg, which I'm chuffed about. I've got this tendonitis in my right elbow though. I think it's golfer's elbow! :(.

Last time it bugged me I rested for a week and it just about went away, but it came back pretty quickly so that obviously wasn't enough rest. So I'm gonna have about 3 weeks off upper body to let it get better. It sucks, I want to do chest and biceps, haha!

I'll just be doing leg work over the holidays then!

Gutted. Can you not pull a sicky?

Not really, cant afford it, already in minus money this month =/ due to MOT and car insurance
- I've got about £40 in my overdraft to keep my going atm :p

Saying that though, my boss is half understanding, and I normally end up staying onsite 30mins or so more than i need to every evening...So hopefully he'll be nice

It's got the point now though where its just pointless...If it was buggered, its 'healed' in its current state now, and just gets bad after i do work on it...meh

Gosh, I didn't realise there was a Gym thread!

I have been going for roughly 9 months and although I have noticed little changes in the way I look (I've always been one of those hard-gainer types), I can't lift an awful lot really.

My diet is completely up the creek though :o I don't use any Protein Supplements or anything either.

Here are my results so far:

Upper Body:

Preacher Dumb-bell Curl: 8/6/4 reps @16kg
Lat-Pull Down Machine: 8/6/4 reps @90kg
Chest Flys Machine: 12/10/8 reps @105kg
Tricep Dip Machine: 12/10/8 reps @85kg
Smith Flat Press: 10/8/6 reps @80kg
Smith Incline Press: 10/8/6 reps @70kg
Smith Decline Press: 10/8/6 reps @60kg
Shoulder Press Machine: 8/6/4 reps @45kg
Barbell Bent Over Row: 10/8/6 reps @50kg
Rope/Cable pull-down: 10/8/6 reps @32kg
Pull ups: 8/6/4 reps, I think I'm in the region of 12 - 12.5 stone.

Legs:

Smith Squat: 12/10/8 reps @100kg
Smith Standing Calf Raise: 12/10/8 reps @105kg
Leg Press Machine: 12/10/8 reps @155kg
Leg Machine 1: 12/10/8 reps @55kg (forgot the specific name)
Leg Machine 2: 12/10/8 reps @65kg (forgot the specific name)

Cardio:

30 mins on Bike
20 mins on Treadmill

Bike + Treadmill are often done on Thursday, but I'm going to break it up, so that the Bike is on Thursday and the Treadmill is on Saturday as doing both on Thursday gets very tiring!

The gym hasn't got anything in the way of Barbell Racks; and I've not been for a week, so I'm starting to feel a bit miserable! I do want to add further compound exercises - like Deadlifts to this.

I don't have a program as such, but I try to focus on legs one day and shake up my upper body across 2 days.

My thoughts too, seriously impressive... congrats!

Hit my DL record with ease 167.5KG 5X5. I think I'll be attempting a PB before the year ends.

Tell me about it, had to buy another 40kg of plates recently so I could up my deadlift and it made my wallet cry. Once you've got all the gear it'll last you a lifetime though, definitely pays off.

i just bought 190kg for £180 (second hand) now have over 400kg, should do me for life. i also got a second 7 foot bar for £40 and an olympic weight rack and barbell rack for £20.

i also now have dumbells ranging from 1kg to 45kg (previously 12.5kg to 25kg)

2 commercial benches (previously just 1)

i only have 2 decent mats though (6ft by 4ft each) and found a site which sells them at around £25 each excluding delivery. i reckon i need another 8 mats so as soon as i have saved up they are on the list.

thats them there, i reckon the £28 ones are better.

Sounds like one hell of a setup! I've got 215kg now I think, don't plan on deadlifting that much, at least not for reps, for a few months yet so it should do my for now.

How thick are the mats that you use, 18mm? I considered getting 11mm matting to save weight (my gym is upstairs in a terrace house built in the 20s, don't know how strong the floors are!) but after looking at it I didn't think it'd do much if I dropped 200kg on it. I went for 2 strips of that thick holey matting meant for putting on grass, has a lot of give and takes the weight rather well as well as being light. I'll probably get the 11mm stuff to stick underneath the whole power rack at one point though because the rest of the floor needs protection from dumbbells and stuff!

these are the mats i have currently http://www.fitness-superstore.co.uk...y_rubber_gym_mat_182_x_121_x_17cm/9267_p.html
as you can see theres a huge difference in price for exactly the same thing. in fact the cheaper ones are 1mm thicker. i dont think there would be much difference between 11mm and 18mm protection wise, since they are both over 1cm thick. i can tell you that i can safely drop 45kg dumbells from height and they are solid, protect both the floor and the dumbells. they weigh a ton though and you need two people to carry them as they wriggle everywhere.

only problem is i need more mats now, especially due to having more stuff, but i just spent all my savings this month (engagement ring, supplements as well as equipment).

most of my stuff is brand new or in brand new condition, apart from what i got recently. so I've been wondering about how i should go about painting it. It stands out a mile and I don't think paint will cost that much, so does anyone know what type of paint would be best for olympic weights, dumbells and olympic bars? i just want everything to be looking in brand new condition rather than some stuff looking like its from the 80's and other stuff not.

I have that matt too Psycho_Sonny. Bloody akward thing to move!

Matting from horse boxes is supposed to be just as good and dead cheap too.

Edit: Just seen the link :p

yeah mate, less than £30 a mat, they are next on my list, at that price its rude not too, plus my equipment will thank me for it. currently the 2 mats i have just do my rack and a little space for deadlifts.

i have cheap matting (got for free) for bench/dumbell work, but i dropped a 20kg dumbell on them once from a small height and it went right through it lol. so i definitely need the decent mats.

After one and a half weeks off after being injured in a stupid sledging accident where i was dragged along by a car, (did my wrist, elbow shoulder and knee in :( ) i did a 1RM deadlift session today:

60 x 4
70 x 4
80 x 4
90 x 4
100 x 3
110 x 2
120 x 1
130 x 1 (wasn't to happy with the form, i came all the way up i just couldt manage the lockout as my grip was failing so i did it again...)
130 x 1 with straps
140 x 1 with straps, thsi came up kinda slow but all the way and i locked out :)

Personal best for me, so pleased with myself, tried 145kg but i only manged to get it an inch of the ground.

I really chuffed with this 140kg :D i weighed 78kg when i weighed myself after the session, after i finished the initial rawr i am man rush i was grinning like a goon and even pumped the air with my fist.

Just wanted to share, none of my mates are interested lol
