The 2011 Chilli growing thread - it's scorching!

joelk2 looks like the same kit as mine I thought they where dead but noticed today they look like they could be allive little shoots like yours. How often are you watering them?

Woo :D

I've still got some Dorset Naga fruit in my fridge, I'm going to replant this year I think but move them outside when the weather improves.

The plant I took to my parents place is still thriving on their window sill and I believe still has some fruit on it!

I might plant up this weekend :)

got me an 85watt bulb from http://www.green-lamp.co.uk didnt realise they were so big lol its like 10 inchs in length should be great for giving my plants a growing boost until the summer sun finds its way here.

ordered it yesterday and around 3pm and got it this morning at 11:30am !

gotta wait for a plug + cable + e27 lamp fitting though hopefully they arrive monday

They'll grow back as big as before. The benefit is that they'll grow quickly with an established root system. You'll get flowers earlier and fruit earlier usually too.

I'm toying with the idea of heating mats
reptile heating mats can often be had fairly cheap probably cheaper than something sold as a propagator heating mat or whatever.

not sure how good they would be though but surely the heat of your bulb will heat the box up? especially with mylar holding the heat in.

btw you know those foil emergency jackets they are made out of mylar and cost around £2 its probably cheaper than buying mylar sheeting but i guess its to late for you know.

some crisp packets have mylar on the inside if you want to be ghetto :D.

btw what are you doing for ventilation? just leaving holes? cos you could just have had 120mm pc fans one that blows air in that hits the stems to strengthen them and another somethere high up to exhaust the heat. a lot of olf mobile phone chargers are the right volts/amps to power pc fans

Hi All

Just moved to a new house, from a flat, so now have some garden space !

Have started off my 4 types of chillis in an electric prop today. Hungarian hot wax, pepperonici, orange sweet, santa fe grande - I love flavour, but cant hack too much heat !

Here is a pic - finger crossed over the next few weeks !

I have some seeds in a packet from my growing last year, but I obviously didn't keep them dry as they've gathered some mold on them. Anyone ever had this before and used the seeds successfully?

Also, when should I be thinking about starting mine growing again? I started in March last year and I think I must have missed the boat as my chillies grown from seeds didn't fruit at all. Should I be thinking about starting now?

Where could I get some Jalapeno seeds? I can just grab them from Chillies I buy in the supermarket?

Or should I just order a pack off sowchillies?

Moldy seeds aren't a good thing and are very unlikely to germinate.

I would start again and start thinking about planting feb or now if you're providing extra artificial daylight.

its necessary to cover the walls in something which will reflect light , dont use aluminium foil because it can have heat spots which will burn your plants.
your likely to have a hydroponics shop within a few miles of where you live (just go on google maps and type "hydroponics" and they will sell mylar in 1 metre rolls for a few quid.

as i said on the previous page those reflective emergency jackets are made out of mylar camping shops etc often sell them for a few pounds.

"flatt white" spray paint is fairly reflective aswell
