Some bloody strong guys in that varsity! Incredible strength for their size, a lot of them I honestly wouldn't take for lifters if I saw them out & about.

Yeah one of my goals for the year is to be knocking on the top of the OUPLC WILKS table. Great bunch of chaps, although I think there are quite a few injuries this year.

No. You shouldn't be failing at all on HST until the final day if that phase. You need to lower the weights considerably, the whole point of HST is the progression :)

Ok thanks. I think I've worked it out now so ill be just at failure by the end of the second week. It's a shame this gym doesn't have any .75kg disks.

Yeah the team for varsity this year was crap all of oxford's decent lifters were injured (in fact I think everyone was :() and then some randomer who had never done powerlifting until a few weeks before hand came in and blew everyone out of the water. He had a 210kg bench and ended up with 450 wilks  and he was a heavy rugby player

Today I did:

5x5 37.5KG Squats
5x5 30KG Barbell Push
3x5 45KG Deadlifts

Yes the weights are low but to me they are quite high, i'm doing the stronglift 5x5 routine.

It was only my second EVER time doing deadlifts, after my first set a man who was next to me also doing deadlifts (about 140kg ones :o) randomly came over and gave me some advise. He said I was doing 'ok' but I was leaning over the bar too much, and I need to use my hips more. Was really helpful.

I'm struggling to move now though, completely foobared :p

Going to focus on strength for the next 2 weeks as I've plateaued in a few areas. The plan is to stick to the same split/workout but stay in the 4-5 rep range on all sets. Should be fun starting with legs tonight, I can see my squats going to kill me.

Just finished my first HST workout, the 15s really show you how unfit I am lol.:o

Not sure it's about fitness level, just not what you're used to in terms of volume.

15s are a bit of a fitness test as well if you do 2 sets.
I've just finished my 15s cycle yesterday and the last few reps of squats and deadlift made me breath quite hard lol.

2 x 15's for HST should leave you gassed for the whole hour or so it takes to do them. If you're not soaked, feeling feint, stinking and pumped come the end then you've not done them properly I'm affraid!

The improved endurance is very much welcome for the 10's and 5's.

Agreed, the 6 weeks are great for different reasons and over all they really improve your training in all areas

I'm just coming to the end of the 5s for HST and I have to say I've enjoyed HST a lot. Ill take a week of for some de conditioning and then start the next cycle.

I've decided not to weigh myself until the end of that cycle (so around the end of may) so I'm hoping I'll put on some good size!

Ha ha, I spose that is why bodybuilding gets a bad rep :).

Oh and Morba yeah it was RAW, all of the lifts in varsity are raw. I don't know about record breaking, I know he was over 100kg but he ended up with 450 on wilks which is ridic! He said he doesn't want to compete again though, apparently it was too stressful

Hahahahaha now where was that picture in the bodybuilding's gay thread, that's camper than a row of pink tents filled with dale wintons.
Also went to check out another local gym today that my housemates joined up to and I just don't understand the love for smith machines, if you've got room for one you've got room for a cage  it wasn't even like it was a crappy council leisure center or anything either its a really nice place set up by a world champion muay thai and kickboxer who trains there himself.

Wheres the best place to read up on this HST malarkey, particularly the routine and calculating for the right reps etc.? I like the sound of it for when I finish uni in a month (eek!).
