*** The 2013 Gym Rats Thread ***

Right so I am trying to set up a routine to help the GF basically lose excess fat and achieve that beach body that everyone one is chasing after. I've taken Steedie's beginners guide as the basis. Being a female she doesn't want to get big, which I told her she shouldn't but in addition she doesn't want to get bigger calves as she feels hers are quite protrusive as they are, so can anyone advise

Number 1)

Slap her silly and point out lifting isn't going to make her 'big'. She isn't going to spawn testicles, start producing testosterone, grow a beard and have bulging muscles because she went to the gym. If she is in a calorie defecit, she needs to lift to help preserve her existing muscle mass while she is cutting. Size zero models, which are basically low body fat, low muscle anorexics are pretty gross.

Number 2)

With that in mind, diet is key to weight loss but lifting is key to a killer body.

Been considering doing some of these for some fun assistance work. No TRX though, would have to do a Smith one....

You not just buy rings?

Works fine with a barbell, naturally there is less stabilisation going on though due to it being fixed.

And use those when you get them :p

Well duh :p

They're on there way, dispatched today. I'm fever/ill bound at the moment anyway, so depending how that goes will depend on how the next few days go.

You asked, I replied :p

Can someone recommend me a dipping belt?

I have an RDX one from the rainforest, not too expensive but you may need to change the chain due to it's limitations at some point.

Like this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Authentic-R...NZC6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1361793532&sr=8-1

Syla5 uses the same one as I do, think he's had at least 40kg on it so far?

50kg, and its been fine with that, although it does only say rated to 30kg. I guess i will know the limits when the chain snaps. LiE uses his and the material holds up with 80kg on a stronger chain.

So I benched 65kg for five reps today and it was very easy. The next two sets were really hard and I missed the final rep. Do I just need to rest longer?
Depends are you resting for 30 seconds or for 5 mins already??

I just use a neoprene Phd dipping belt. Cut the original chain off as it was pidly and bought a more suitable length & two clips from B&Q. You can use their chain cutters to cut the old chain off too. Mines taken 50KG pretty comfortably and no real sign of wear yet.

Smear mustard over your chest & triceps.

If training for strength then rest as long as you need tbh. nothing wrong with long rest periods as long as you arent getting cold :)
