*** The 2013 Gym Rats Thread ***

I was given a belt as a present for xmas.. tried using it on deadlift but it felt awkward, any tips on technique?

To ask a precursor question - do you have any particular reason to think that a belt will be beneficial for you? Belts are no doubt useful for some but if there's no outstanding reason to wear one then it seems a bit unnecessary and you may find it hides some deficiencies in your core strength which potentially could lead to injury. I don't know how much you lift or if you've got any problems you need to compensate for in this regard so that's why I'm asking.

However I'd wait for one of the more experienced lifters to comment.

Icecold was selling me carb back loading over the phone today. Sounds possible... the preparation period doesn't!!!

The prep pages is easy. Nd you can speed it up with exercise, and additional hiit sessions. I am looking at a 6 day prep (day 5 today) just depends on tomorrows weigh in. Also the prep phase is just 7-10 days of something very similar to what your low carb days should be when on proper CBL, so it's not that hard ;)

No but might give it a bash one day.

Why not?

There is no good reason on earth not to squat, unless you have no legs..

Was jist hoping it would help with squats/deads as I have a back injury
A belt won't prevent injury, nor will it fix poor form.

When used correctly a belt will help with your lifts, due to improving the level at which you can brace your core. It is difficult to explain how exactly to use a belt, but from personal experience it shouldn't feel uncomfortable at any point, tight yes, uncomfortably tight no. Finding the right position again is down to you, you don't want it so high that when you squat it digs in your ribs, or so low that when you Deadlift it pinches at your waist.

Did a little oly lifting today. My first proper attempt at snatching, most of them were a little more power-snatchy but that's not so bad I just need to spend a bit more time doing it and get used to receiving a little lower.

Snatch
40kg
45kg
50kg
55kg
60kg
65kg
70kg

Most of them were for a couple of reps and the bad ones I did more of obviously.

Annoyingly I can't get the other videos into Windows Live Movie Maker :(. The 70kg was apparently the best rep.

Learned something new today :)
