*** The 2013 Gym Rats Thread ***

It's okay, Syla5 slacks off the gym when he's busy at work, I think flu is a valid reason :p

(part of the haven't been to the gym this week due to pulled trap krew)

You cheeky...to be fair i have never missed a session due to having any kind of illness, but i could just be lucky and not really get ill.

My gym inspires/depresses me in equal measure. One of the bigger guys casually OHP's 60kg for about 15-20 reps, then busts out 100kg for 5 without it looking particularly difficult. "Feels heavy this week!" - jelly.

And somewhere, someone's doing 100kg for their warmup. Don't be discouraged. You'll never be the strongest, don't try to be. Just be the best you can be

So cereal.

Much motivation.

Wow

I love my gym (not srs). There was a guy squatting with his mates and he had wrapped a yoga mat around the bar. I'm not sure but the pussy pad might have also been under that. He then gets to the bottom of his squat and realises it's too heavy. So what does he do? He takes one hand off the bar and puts it on the catcher arm thing and attempts to push himself up:D

Does anyone know any alternative ways to do glute/ham raises without the normal bench used. I improvised yesterday by just having my friend holding my ankles but I can't do that everytime.

Any creative ideas appreciated!:D

I don't think it is big enough iirc, it's one of those thin stool like seats. However barbell hip thrusts seem to be a good idea.

This is my routine at the moment

Monday

Dumbbell bench presses 3 x 10
Seated dumbbell presses 2 x 10
Wide-grip chins 3 x 10
Leg presses 3 x 10
Glute/ham raises 3 x 15

Wednesday

Flat-bench flyes 3 x 10
Bent-over rows 3 x 10
Squats 3 x 10
Leg extensions 3 x 12
EZ-curl-bar curls 2 x 15
Dips 1 x 15-20

Friday

Incline dumbbell presses 3 x 10
Cable rows 3 x 10
Stiff-legged deadlifts 4 x 8
Dumbbell lunges 2 x 15
Standing calf raises 3 x 20-25

I have no idea how effective it will be for me, and its a change from the 3 day-split I was doing before, but after doing quite a bit of reading online it seemed training each body part more than once a week was a better beginner routine.

How do you guys deal with stretch marks? I'm starting to get them around my arm pit.

Never understood why people are even bothered by stretch marks; especially from lifting!

e:
Bio oil is the stuff to use btw. inb4 BennyC

You ranggggg?

Ultimately the best way to deal with them is to grow slower.

You can't stop them, only keep the skin well moisturised etc to keep the collagen from stretching. They fade with time though.

Mire my armpits. These were all at some point red/purple:

Also another question. My 14 year old rugby playing brother wants to start lifting. Has anyone got any suggestions on a routine? Would you suggest something like SS or SL?

Teaching him the big 4 is a good start. Stronglifts will help with regularity. SS contains power cleans, which personally isnt a beginner move unless they are being coached by someone who knows how to do the lift properly.
