*** The 2013 Gym Rats Thread ***

So 'Body Pump' was ****

The concept was good, great for strength endurance in theory, but weight change didn't happen enough to really meant you were pushing everything hard enough.

There were also 'dead lifts' which all I can really call them is good mornings with a deadlift position for the bar...

There were also some Ab exercises that would make ice cry...

Hey guys, haven't been here for a while. Quick questions I'm still cutting but I saw quiet a few people post about the stronglift 5x5 and I tried it out this week and I must say its really good. I have been adding some cardio afterwards, just wanted to ask is this ok or is it a no no :). As also thanks for the help guys.

As for my progress I dropped another 3KG this month and I have gotten my squat up to 75kg, bench is 45kg, deadlift is 85kg :D. However I did drop this all down when starting the stronglift so I can really work on getting my technique really good before I get back to heavier weights.

No problem with doing cardio... Although the ability to do so would suggest you aren't lifting heavy enough. ;)

It's important to keep your cardiovascular system in good order, too!

Cardio is fine. Especially if you start SL right from the beginning, I suspect it won't be working you too much right at the beginning.

I read something fantastic earlier. Or possibly watched. I think it was actually some crossfit interview or something;
Anyway, basically it said, if you say you're training at 80% of your 1RM, then this should be your 'technical 1RM' which they define as your 1RM where you can maintain correct form instead of lifting with a poor back.

So I was at the gymnastics centre last night and played on the rings, which were really hard. Full size hanging 20ft from the celling, I was very wobbly. Going to get some rings for my home gym for sure. Also did some box jumps (not sure how high, about 40" if I had to guess).

Our boxes are only 25in max :( but we do have an epic gymanstics centre, that I want to check if they've got some rings... (worryingly I might think they don't...)

Ok, so I've been tracking my weight for a few weeks now. Seem to be gaining about, 1.5lbs/wk. This seem about right to be 'mostly' muscle gain? or do I need to cut back calories slightly do we reckon?

What does the mirror tell you? If you can't tell then it's too soon to tell. You've only been with your current program what 5/6 full weeks with a month gap inbetween?

Awesome.

What exercises did you do? Even ring dips are really hard!

Always a competition with you :p Damn impressive though.. I wonder if they're ever worried about the weights slipping off of the box xD

Edit: Good session today. Finally gym has started to empty out from the NYR army crowd.

Love how the box jump is no longer seen as the pariah it once was!

Ring dips are humbling. Now up to 20kg for reps - really getting the technique. If you want big **** - ring dips are the silicone they need. :D

No no box junps are fine, its stick jumps everyone hates ;)

Id love to try some ring dips, im terrible enough at normal dips though!
