*** The 2014 Gym Rats Thread ***

To be honest Hank, sort out your lunches and the random cereal snack and it will help no end, then naturally assess why you're having so many scoops of whey. While milk is good it can be pretty calorific also.

Will deffo try to cut out all the cereal/fast food and go for better alternatives. Also I've been told I need to have 1 gram of protein for each pound I weigh. That adds up to about 170 grams per day. Each shake is about 60g + the milk so I thought I need to have about 5 scoops per day to get enough.

I wear tights and high heels.

Srs.

Sounds painful

You should be getting most of your protein through food, not a supplement.

Plenty of apps to track your food, macros etc.

Right, proper noob question time: what sort of clothes do you guys wear when lifting? obviously i'm not going to the gym in skinny jeans but would i be alright in cargo shorts? i'm not planning on doing any cardio (get enough of that in the pool) but i don't want to look a plonker in the gym...

Should be fine as long as there's enough space there to allow a full range of movement e.g. at the bottom of a squat you're not going to split your shorts. I tend to prefer lighter weight sports shorts but go with what feels comfortable for you, it's more important to go and get lifting than worry too much about what you're wearing - unless like mrthingyx you need to ensure a well turned ankle...

You can wear what you like to the gym really, Ive seen everything from tracksuit bottoms, shorts, jeans, suit pants and those really little tight hot pants (luckily on an incredibly well toned young lady!). Personally I prefer loose fitting tracksuit bottoms/joggers so they dont get caught around my legs when squatting and deadlifting.

I picked up some Under Armour gear cheap cheap a few months back so I'm now a walking advert, but it's loose fitting, lightweight and doesn't hold sweat so I don't mind a bit of branding.

Breakfast question...

Currently having the Quaker Oats from the packet (the ones you then top up said packet with milk and nuke) with a bit of honey.

However, recently I've found it doesn't fill me up in the slightest. What else would you guys recommend? I'm normally short on time in the mornings so quicker the better really

I love eggs but never have time to cook them etc... Boiled eggs cooked night before, cold? *shrugs*

Takes 2 minutes to nuke oats, takes 1:40 to nuke 3 eggs to scrambled goodness, stick the toast in at the same time and it's all ready to be scoffed in under 2 minutes.

I'll do both then :D

Best get a crap load of eggs... Boiled is cool too though, right?!

Eggs are good in anyway you can think of, we've always got 2 trays of 30 on the shopping list.
I have been known to boil some up the night before so they're soft boiled stick them in a tub and mash them with a boat load of pepper and a sprinkle of chilli then stick it on some bread for breakfast.
