*** The 2014 Gym Rats Thread ***

We actually got banned from there in the end :D

We used the lift because we were wrecked from deadlifts and couldn't be bothered climbing the stairs, the lift jammed and we had to call the manager (this was around 12am), he came and had a sissy fit because he had to get out of bed to come and rescue us despite us doing nothing wrong and that being in his job description and reflected in his salary. Then they banned us both for "providing our PINS to other people".

One of their locations has recently removed most of the heavier dumbbells and 25kg/20kg plates because of noise complaints too, they're really not a gym you'd want to lift in if you want to get strong.

What I called him didn't really help either...

Also, they WISH they had 25KG plates, it was only ever 20s max as far as I can remember.

Impressive bench spoffle. I am suprised it goes up because it looks like you take any built up tension out of your back/arms/chest with that drop!

As previously said, when you learn to lift well technically, your going to be beastly strong. Till then, stay safe!

Thanks :)

Yeah, I'm not sure specifically what caused the drop at the bottom, as I was very comfortable throughout the lift. I think the video exaggerates it a bit, though I did feel the drop so I knew it was there before watching the video back. But Serge reckons it wasn't as obvious when he was watching, as opposed to through the camera. But I will try and find out what has caused it.

Also you could probably ditch the gloves, at the weights your shifting, they are doing nothing but putting a lose surface between you and the bar.

Haha, well as you can see those gloves are in a STATE. I don't actually need gloves for benching, it's just a habit I've picked up. However for the bar I was using in the video, they're a must. The knurlings are unreasonably sharp, so it's gloves or lacerated palms central.

There is a guy in my gym that does all pulling/pushing exercises whilst putting sponges between his hands and the bar. Like bathroom sponges. I'm waiting for the inevitable.

This isn't anything remarkable, but it's a small victory for manlet DYEL me - as of this week I can full/ATG/Oly squat 100kg fairly comfortably for a single at 65kg-ish bodyweight. No idea what my proper 1RM is since I only aim to squat up to a heavy single without it being a grinder/form-breaking before my work sets, but it's nice because a) when I began training for the first time ever I got to 100kg then realised all I was doing was quarter squatting, so bought my lifting shoes and relearnt how to squat properly starting back at 50kg. I think I got to 80kg then b) in the spring I tore muscles in my neck and one of my traps because I'm stupid, got emo as I couldn't do barbell work for months and didn't do any exercise - got rather weak as when I started off I had as much muscle as a 12 year old girl and only got to 'looks like he might lift' status - then when I got the all clear I had to start over again.

Do you even manlet? ;) :D

When doing deads I sometimes use a piece of cloth for grip ;) It's an old tea towel torn in to two small pieces :p Just as a barrier to mop up the sweat. (Chalk Pauper)

Sponge could work I suppose :D Strange though...
