*** The 2017 Gym Rats Thread ***

Well its been 5 days since I returned to the gym, only now are the leg DOMs starting to fade, and I didn't even go remotely heavy.

Amazed what 4 months of no training will lose off your bench, I had a failure at 45kg on Saturday which was eye opening. Weight seemed to come off the chest fine, but once I got it that 6 inches or so off the chest where the triceps are supposed to engage and drive the weight upwards there was just nothing there.

Hoping to get back in the gym this week.

Managed a session just before new year and then spent the whole of January getting attacked by every virus, bacteria and other nasty going which left me with just about enough energy to go to work and that's only because I can't stuff my face if they don't pay me :D

On the plus side it's always a nice ego boost when the guys from our Indian office come over, they're obsessed with my size with almost as much gusto as mrthingyx loves my width :o

He calls it my "width" personally I think that's just a way for him to feel more accepting of the fact he wants to stroke my cockerel.

Yeah, this just got full on /homo.

Yay for hamstring DOMS! :D

Numbers creeping up - 160kg deads and 130kg squats. Form I think is okay... I just need more consistency and more regular training!

Bench - well I have no bench at the moment, so only doing floor press and ring dips at the moment.

Roughly 10 months out (injury, plantar fasciitis) and I'm horribly weak. Empty bar for everything just to get started again and so far my foot feels great!

I don't think I've ever managed really bad calf doms, although saying that I don't know what I did sat at my desk last Monday but when I stood up to go home my calf pinged and that's been that for the last week I've been properly hobbling around much to the amusement of my house mates.

I stupidly decided to sign up to a leg of a marathon relay, two years in a row  I did zero prep work, my cardio was fine, but my running style is very forefoot heavy like a sprinter and that meant the calf doms for the next 3 days made life barely worth living. They remained for a further week at a more manageable level.

What is it with the crazies in my gym at the moment. A guy 'benching' way more than he is able, two people helping lift the weight off him whilst he is making so much noise in the process. Bizarre.

Managed 3 x 5 @ 110kg squats today after doing the same on Saturday. Need to focus on my form, but it's feeling decent. A game of rugby beckons this Saturday which could be interesting. I had a horrible realisation that I'm back to shift work in under 9 months so I need to really push the gym while I've got a bit more of a life.

Just ego lifters, plenty of those about. Funny thing is that I never seen guys who have a muscular physique lift that much. One guy who is definitely on a cycle of something and must be prepping for a show seems to minimal weights, but then again he may be training multiple times a day. I have seen him on a stair master machine for an hour though and a good pace too, impressed wasn't the word!

Don't have too many crazies around at the minute, do have a swimming club that insists on using the performance development centre for their plank, step up & pullup circuits. I cry.

All the serious bodybuilders have left my gym replaced by the guys who bench 100 for 8 easy then quarter squat a 100 for 5 while their friends cheer them on. Also my new favourite newbie who swings awful cheaty reps in every single exercise, it's rather funny.
