If you can code to even a basic level you can most likely get your head around CFD very easily as the maths isn't that difficult and plenty of CFD engineers dont even know that... Spend a few months studying fluid flow i.e continuity equation, Stokes, Bernoulli, Euler, throw in some non-dimensional numbers.. Progress to Navier Stokes. Learn an easy software package. Job done!

You don't need to worry about all that stuff apart from when you want to confuse management.
All you really need is a decent meshing program and a decent computer.
Just produce some nice flow path pictures and watch them go all giggly.
 
Back OT consideration of salary is a very small part of your life anyway.
We all would love loads of money but that ain't going to happen working for someone else.
All depends what sort of life you want live to work or work to live.

Define "loads of money"? Of course you can earn 50-200k+ "working for someone else" depending on the job sector.

The way you posted it was a bit graceless in light of the OP not yet achieving his goals. At the very least you could have made it encouraging - but as you didn’t it just came across as gloating.

Mad benching skills do not have quite the same affect on quality of life as salary. But I would say that because my benching is dreadful :p
 
You need to find happiness in everyday situations and not define your happiness on achieving 50k a year salary which is obviously unrealistic in the short to medium term. Why give up potentially 10-20years now in the aim to think you can be happy and life is great on 50k

On a side note I hope our professional progressions don’t reach a ceiling in our 30s as some seem to suggest :)

But for the OP I hope you can just enjoy your life by moments rather than grand goals. It’s great to have ambition and a I think having a 5year rolling plan or outline is good to live by. I don’t know what has happened in the time since the opening post but you are or were working on 20+k which is ok. Branching out in your spare time is more important that chasing money.

Yeah, I guess the top CFD engineers who work in auto and aero will be a cut above but there are plenty who just know how to use the software package with limited understanding of what is going on behind the scenes. Not having a degree may be a hindrance to working in the chem sector for fluid transport and mixing but alternative routes are possible if you can demonstrate competency. OP - have you also considered re-training as a CAD engineer? It may take a while to get to £50k but it is certainly doable.

I work 3 days a week, and am perfectly happy with it. It's not my only income stream. After working stupidly long hours for over 20 years I am more than happy with my life>work balance now!

I’m 27 and I expect to hit 6 figures before I’m 30.

Seeingeyedog was rubbish, guidedog is a bit better but I'm pretty sure they need to see very well to do their job. :D

Seriously though thread isn't even in that section. If I haven't noticed it in 3 years then it speaks for how visible it is. :p

If he is in banking/finance, a contractor in a specialised field, or reaches a senior manager position in some other fields unusually early then it's very possible. There are numerous ways to hit six figures. However, without details of what he does it's a bit of a forgettable post.

Level 3 in NDT: UST, mainly transverse testing.

Contracting at the moment, hoping to get into railway track testing soon once I have enough experience.
