The figures still aren't satisfactory - I did google the same stuff as you, they're just not readily available - but what is available doesn't really shift me from thinking it's a stupid risk to self fund. If you're good enough won't one of two things happen,

1. you get offered a TC with funding attached for at least the LPC

2. you get offered a TC where the firm won't give you anything beforehand so you have to self fund the LPC... but obviously that's not as big a deal as there's a guaranteed TC at the end of it and so you will get qualified.
If you want to do crime, family, immigration, etc, you won't get any funding from any firm. Taking your chances is the only way to get into those sectors as a trainee.

He's gone backwards if anything.

He doesn't like making money if it screws someone else over so he's basically settled for mediocrity and pretends he gives back more to humanity than he's taken from it.

Interesting, I doubt the net network effect of a comfortable Western chap is that negligible. Also, a touch depressing, as at the very least he had the skills and determination needed to get an okay job that gives him the means for a reasonable start in whatever, with some planning and perseverance. I'd still go back to my earlier point that it's possible to make a living helping people, or to redistribute wealth of your own accord when you no longer need it. Sure the former may not net you 50k per annum/as a lump sum, but if one doesn't care about wealth, then why stress over it? You will hurt people no matter what you do; it's the balance that counts.

Well that's the thing I forgot the part where he doesn't like people, so unless he's an undiscovered genius and works in scientific research or something then it was already over from the moment he posted the thread.

The only people bringing in that money or more who can't function socially are involved in some sketchy stuff like drug dealing.

Accountants, data centre bods, actuaries? Ludicrous night shift overtime? In the grand GD tradition, let me offer a personal anecdote: I used to sit next to a bloke who was socially dysfunctional and unable to speak in a group (>2 people) - too shy. He got his role by failing three interviews for more front office roles. His alias was 'The Gravedigger'. Salary? 42K + benefits. Job? Perfunctory penetration testing and other security junk. Apparently, a hot field. He did sell his life to a corp, though. Needless to say, his skills did not pop up like mushrooms after a downpour of undiscovered talent. The chap was a real bell-shaker but worked hard on his technical aptitude, and technical fields have never been overly harsh on such personalities. Age discrimination is more of an issue there. And FoxEye doesn't seem as bad. Ergo, cards to play! :D

That guy in your anecdote sounds like he wanted to work though and made no excuses to push himself and work hard on what was needed for his field, and whilst he may have been shy he probably didn't have a fundamental problem with disliking everyone without reason.

Seems I don't need to post anything more, Ayahuasca is doing just fine making up all my replies.

Sorry to disappoint @datalol-jack, but I'm probably worse socially than your chap*, and I'm old, and my skills are non-existent :p At some point I have to decide on what to learn, starting from scratch. *Can't actually converse face-to-face with anyone; just lock up. I only socialise on forums and never meet anyone in person.

Seems incredible to have got to 37 and not have picked up any useful work-related skills. Just what the hell have I been doing in that time :/ So the first thing is deciding what to learn, or what courses to do, etc. Could be anything since I have no career in anything atm.

Can you talk to people on the phone?

Sounds like you need a home-based job.

Sounds like the main thing he needs is to find some motivation to pick a direction and actually pursue something, something that would have been better had he done it 3 years ago but that also isn't too late to do now.

Have you never seen a psychologist to try to address this?

Please do not take this as a personal attack FoxEye (I don't know you). But it sounds like you're struggling when you shouldn't be, and you need help that cannot be provided by Internet forums. Please, think of yourself and go and see a medical professional.

Just landed a sweet new role taking my salary nicely above £50k. Thought you might like to know.
Congrats :)

I imagine you didn't just luck-out and land in a 50k job, so would have put in the time and effort to make that sum.

I would be jealous of a person who lucked out and got there, but those who work for it with continued application and dedication I can only admire.

My own situation, in case anyone cares (it's that thread again!) is of accepting my current situation, which is not terrible, and adjusting my expectations downwards :p

I just don't have it in me to work my ass off for more money. Sorry!
