The absolute state of pubs these days

I think he means older inasmuch as when you're an undergrad, you only need money for drink and food. That's about it. You don't have to pay rent and bills.

When you have to pay rent and bills, spending £100 on getting drunk is just lunacy.
Most students pay rent and bills don't they?

I certainly did!
Big old waste of money my degree! :D

Waste of time, waste of money, waste of being in debt for years with a student loan

On the contrary, the outdoors has never been busier. People realised during lockdown that there are endless opportunities to get outdoors and do stuff that costs next to nothing. Certainly cheaper and more agreeable than poisoning yourself with alcohol.
As someone who lived in Birmingham for a year as a student, this reply was all kinds of confusing given the topic, since Brummies use 'outdoors' to mean the off license. :D

I hate pubs, watching lots of mates go from being interesting dudes who went out to gigs/clubs every weekend to being boring old farts who now just go down the local has been depressing.

I remember the days when I could go out with £15 have 6 or 7 pints of decent ale, chips and gravy, bus home and still have change.

Pint of Mansfield lovely :)

But decent pubs that are not tied in to the Nazi brewery's seem to be doing OK, mind you its proper beer and not this crap Larger the UK produces. (oh indian **** ale is not nice, nor will it ever be nice) Mild and Bitter is where its at.

Cracking pint in this place but some of the regulars are a bit strange and thats what makes it a great place.

Nope, that would have been lunacy even when I was younger and went out every weekend.

I was peak London clubbing in 2006, so adjusted for inflation, £100 now would have been £66 then.

Normal club night tickets generally topped out at £15, but many were free. £10 for smokes and bottle of water, £20 for "extras", and you have a banging night for £30-45 (Around £45-70 in today's money) and that was a good 8 hour party, usually with a pre-party at a mate's house, and a crack-on somewhere else afterwards.

Some of the regulars I see in pubs though I literally don't understand how they can afford to frequent them for hours upon end drinking and eating there. Must be smashing through the monies.

Lucky for me my local charges 0.55p a pint for wheat beer and as low as 0.35p a pint for others.

I've just got to brew it though

Don't be that creepy old guy in the club dude...

Pleanty of older people than me at clubs and gigs.

The idea that no one in their 30s or 40s goes to clubs or gigs is hilarious. It’s a myth sold by old farts trying to justify themselves becoming boring ******** who spend too much time down the pub :p

Yep, I'm in my 40s now, and when I go to trance nights I'd say the average age is in the 30s, with quite a range.

Dude are you ever cheerful about anything? I don't mean this a dig.
tbf put him in a kayak and he's all smiles

This! :D

Kayaking, MTB, outdoor stuff, holidays, chickens, some TV genres.

That's about it! :o

But yeah, I do see the bad more than the good. Which is sad. And do have some issues at home. Probably would help if I lived abroad too!

I also do not like most "normal" stuff. Sitting indoors for social stuff just isn't my thing. And I'm perpetually annoyed by UK government continual failure. Although that doesn't affect me day to day. Just the topics I comment on in here.
