Picked up one of these cards https://www.gigabyte.com/Graphics-Card/GV-N4080AORUSX-WB-16GD

Actually quite shocked at how small it is compared to my 3080! I did read though that the above Gigabyte card is one of the smallest 4080 PCBs. I just went with it as I have a custom loop and for ease of swapping in rather than messing about with custom 4080 waterblocks at the moment.

Though from initial temp testing I'd probably say my EK waterblock on my 3080 performed better. That might also come down to thermal paste and quality of thermal pads I was using compared to whatever cheap crap Gigabyte probably use for factory waterblocks lol.

I'm guessing due to the quesitonable value prospect of the 4080 (if you can shell out £300~500 more consider a 4090, if your budget is around the 3080, RIP) the sales of these must be really poor at the moment. Hardly any owners

I'd probably agree they are pretty poorly priced. DLSS3 is great mind you, just testing it out in The Witcher 3 and it actually makes it playable with RTing cranked to max. Even on a 4080 at 3440x1440 the game can't maintain over 60FPS with DLSS2 alone.

As for some benches, my card is doing not bad https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/88919544? 3ghz+ is easily obtainable if you don't mind cranking the voltage up. +1400 on memory as well, seems memory OCs well.

Where the 4080 likely has a difference from the 4090 is on the die size. 4080 is the smallest die out of a 3080/3090/4090. It's obviously helped produce the really small Gigabyte 4080 PCB I have, I am still shocked its like 25~33% smaller than my 3080. But this means the core runs a bit warmer as its harder to transfer heat off it. Even with watercooling. The 4090 even with more power draw will cool better than the 4080.

Example image here of die size https://i.redd.it/56or5z5exuga1.jpg

But for anyone building in small cases the 4080 will likely offer some great space saving.

4080 vs 3080 size difference. The 4080 only just manages to reach the edge of motherboard anti-sag GPU bracket lmao.

Biggest downside to the new cards is the horrendous power cable adapter. Waiting on a corsair PSU cable at the moment.

Literally MASSIVE - can't wait to get a water block on it.

Genuine question.

Why did you spend the higher cost on a Suprim card when your'e going to take off the cooler? Surely you could have bought another cheaper card and taken off the cooler and blocked it? Most PCB's for all the brands cards are so similar it's hard to tell the difference, so you've paid more cash, for a great cooler, that you're going to remove?

Damn you know the 4080 has sold like absolute crap when most OT topics for it are dead and you run a 3DMark benchmark and not only are there only like 60 results alongside a 5950x combo, but you manage to come 1st right off the bat https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/89154442?

And I'm not exactly a hobbyist OCer or anything, just learn a bit, get my hardware stable at the best performance it can be and call it a day.

Nvidia really priced the 4080 terribly. Even I was at the point of thinking "Should I just get the cheapest 4090 instead?" but ultimately decided against because it was still hundreds of £ more and I'd need to buy a separate waterblock and those are a wee bit of a premium right now as well for 4090s. Plus I game at 1440p, albeit it UW so its 3440x1440.

Performance is great, DLSS3 really is a game changer for ray tracing, but I guess I'd even advise if you are happy where you are on a 3xxx card, right now you're really paying a premium pretty much just for RTing.

Went for the best air cooler to see how it performed before I decided whether to split it or not. The card is still air cooled and will probably stay that way now, seriously impressed. I've not seen it break 59c even after hours of constant gaming.

I was gonna grab a fe one of these but just not sure it’s a worthwhile purchase for me I currently run

Asus x470-f gaming board
Amd 5800x cpu
Corsair rx750x psu
32gb 3200 team group ram
3080fe gpu
Lg 48” oled c2 2.1 hdmi 120hz

Pc runs great and all the games I run I get good fps in 4K and with any new games dlss can always help out to keep it up there but just fancied the future proof of the 4080 with lower power consumption and less noise as the 3080 is noisy fan wise to keep those temps down, what do you guys think ?

If you get the FE do you miss out on anything major vs asus etc? I have the meshify c which has a clearance of 315mm with the front fans fitted, looks like the FE will fit but the others are too long.
