The Air Rifles & Pistols thread

I'd consider servicing my own springer but a PCP is a whole other thing - my two Daystate PCPs would likely be getting serviced professionally!

Interestingly a gunsmith (full RFD cert) up in the west midlands (staffordshire/shropshire area) is hopefully soon going to mod my Air Ranger to fit an action that's regulated - he builds his own regs and doesn't think much of the "Harper" valve system - look forward to seeing the difference!

Having done a fair bit fo reading and watching a few disassembly guides i think i should be ok taking apart my S410. It's internals seem pretty basic anyway. I have BSA airsporter in bits at the moment and took my Webley Nemesis apart the other week to fix it so i think i should be ok

Took a pic of the HW98/95 hybrid rifle when the sun was out a few days ago.

I bought a tuning kit for it as it was running at the German 6ft/lb level and the twang was unbelievably bad. I was going to go for a Vmach as I have had great results in the past, but decided to try another kit maker that is highly praised on the various airgun forums. I read a lot of claims they were even better than Vmach.

Got the kit and immediately noticed the spring guide is a lot smaller than the original. Surely the spring guide should be as long as possible to support the spring fully? Then when i got the kit out of the bag the fit of the spring on the guide was very loose. Not quite as loose as the original spring and guide, but a lot looser than Vmach fit their spring guides.

The spring ends were rough as hell and the inside edge was quite sharp. So i took the rough marks out with a fine diamond stone and gave it a slight polish. If i'd have left it as it was it would have worn away the delrin guide and top hat in no time.

Fitted the kit and as expected the gun twanged almost as bad as before . Put 100 pellets through it to bed it in a bit in the hope this would help, but the twanging got slightly worse. The guy seems helpful enough and has offered to replace the guide if I send the kit back, but when you pay £63 for a tuning kit it should be right. I wish i had just stumped up the extra and bought the Vmach kit now. With the time wasted and cost of return postage I would have been much better off paying the extra £20.

From what I've been able to glean they are pretty much all based on the 870, which can also fire paintballs though it's not meant to, I've seen them online from abroad for seventy odd quid, thinking of getting one myself.

I'm buying an Umarex Colt saa .177 pellet as soon as my rfd gets them in later this month and I'm buying the airsoft calibre of the same gun from Taiwan, from what I've seen they have a good tight action, the best untill you go cnc aluminium or steel which is high hundreds to thousands of quid for an airsoft pistol.

I eventually bought one of these BB shotguns BTW, and they are quite fun! I'm VERY surprised at the range too; on a quiet day I can be reasonably accurate to about 30 meters or so. You can tune the backspin on it, and it's actually quite fun to shoot! You can also shoot it 'without aiming' more or less like a real shotgun.
The build is pretty good, apart from the fact the blue pain job is already wearing off (it must be the quickest spray job ever!)

Anyway it's also a nice 'exercise' prop for the Mrs to work on the shoulder muscles!

Here is my Magpie and Pigeon Kailbre .22

Old photo, now fitted with a bipod.

14 shot mag, tank does about 150 regulated shots.
Very accurate and the best air rifle I have owned, Easy head shots at 20 - 30m

This thread makes me want to get out and shoot the Gamo springer that I got fixed under warranty then it sat in the cupboard for 2 years because the only close place I could shoot was on Wednesday nights and if the guy felt like turning up.

Can anyone recommend a good site NOT located in UK. Im looking for a decent Co2 pistol. Iv always wanted a replica Wincherster and a Colt 45. Cheers

Hi,

Yes, I can recommend http://www.krale-schietsport.nl/en/ in The Netherlands.

I pave purchased a CO2 pistol (a SPA CP-1M actually) from them myself, as have many others in the U.K. and elsewhere, and was very pleased with the service I received.

Their carriage charges are very reasonable and they ship well packed items by courier (UPS from memory), directly to your door in about three or four days.

Another popular vendor is http://www.silesia-factory.pl/en/ in Poland who sometimes sell a bit cheaper, but then have a higher shipping charge. I have not used them personally, but again have read good reports about them.

You can save quite a lot by buying this way, and if purchasing from an EU country you don't have to worry about import duty etc.

Hope this helps! :)

There is an air rifle range near me, it's £25 for an hour, for 2 people including gun hire. Would it be any good? Looks quite underwhelming from the video but maybe it's better when you actually do it. The guns are semi automatic and there appears to be almost zero recoil, i would have thought it'd be a tad more violent? I dunno really. Any thoughts?

If it's your first time you might want to shoot a spring air gun as you'll get more out of it. I had a go on PCP (very little recoil) and it felt like easy mode at 25 yrds I didn't really see the point in it.

Sounds like airsoft or bb firing. Ronnie sunshines does something similar at their shops.

so what are people's thoughts on this?

It was handed in to my local shooting ground last week.

the general consensus from the club is that the police would rather you just surrender your air rifles and pistols.

what riles me is the use of the word weapon. i do not own a weapon! i own an air rifle and a shotgun.

Makes me sad to think of all the beautifully engineered airguns that will be destroyed when the owners see one of these and are scared into getting rid of them quickly to not get into trouble. Probably loads of old Webleys out there in peoples lofts that could be going to a new home rather than melted down :(.

The chavs with their rusty old B2 wont give a monkeys.
