The Air Rifles & Pistols thread

Anyone tried the Sig Sauer P226 co2 pistol?

I have an Umarex Beretta, Smith and Wesson revolver and a CP88, but find them a little boring to shoot as there is no recoil. So have been looking into getting a blowback Co2 gun and the Sig Sauer caught my eye.

Also liking the look of the upcoming Sig c02 semi auto rifles. I think i'll wait for the PCP version in the hope it'll be higher power and more consistent. It could actually be a very fun rifle in PCP form.

I have the Sig Sauer P226 X5. It's a fun, backyard plinker. The metal gives it a reasonable weight (~900g without the mag) and it's great fun to shoot. I highly recommend it, the blowback aspect is rather fun! Expect about three full magazines per capsule (if I remember correctly, I haven't shot mine in the last year), so stock up on them ^_^

Thanks Matt... I thought it was later in the year, and as it is not that far away I had planned to pay a visit there this year, so I am a bit upset to hear that I have just missed it!

Will have to wait until next year now! :(

Never had an air rifle before (48 now) but have a few squirrels destroying our bird feeders so I have bought an HW35s. Having fun just shooting targets at the moment with iron sights.

Thanks, I think there must be 2 models as the P226 I have been looking at fires pellets. I'll have a look into the x5 as well.

Have you have any problems with reliability?

Ah yeah, a very different beastie. The X5 only shoots bbs. The slide locks back when the mag is empty. The co2 goes into the magazine, and the valve assembly is also part of the magazine. The one you've been looking at has the valve inside the pistol. Watching a review of the pellet version, the slide doesn't seem to lock back when the mag is empty, plus it *seems* to be sort of double action only? The X5 is single and dual action.

No problems with mine so far :)

Just had a look at a few reviews of the X5 on Youtube and I think that is my best bet for a fun plinker. Almost Like a softair, but full metal and fires steel bb instead of plastic. My only worry is how long the paint will last as in one of the reviews I could already see it scraping off where the slide release lever has been used a few times.

It does make a mockery out of the governments silly restrictions on softair replicas as these look just as real as the restricted softair versions. The only difference is the ammo type.

Also looking at the Tangfolio or Swiss Arms 1911, which i believe are by the same company.

I think these will be a lot of fun. Made in the same factory as the real guns, so should be fairly accurate in terms of realism. The co2 version might be a bit weak and suffer from power drops, but apparently there is a pcp version being made at a later date. I think that could be a lot of fun for a plinker if it has a bit more umph. Not quite semi auto as it has a double action trigger, but from videos i have seen you can fire it pretty rapidly.

I used to have a really good £300 air riffle about 30 years ago when I was 17/19 but the name of it completely escapes me! Used to frequent Drapers in Nottingham. Anyway I used to just shoot paper targets, bottles and cans till one day I decided to go shooting in the woods where I shot a pidgeon for the first and last time, felt really guilty and got rid.

However recently my nephews have been showing me their Airsoft collection and Go Pro footage and it looks great fun, love how the guns and all the gear looks real, it's just like real life counterstrike and no one animal or human dies! This I could do and imo makes Air Riffles obsolete :)

Mine just turned up today from Germany :). I ended up having to buy one from Germany as I couldn't find any in the UK, but it worked out about the same price and can be delivered directly to your door.

Feels really solid and well put together. The paint scratches a bit too easily as I suspected it would, but for the price I guess its to be expected.

I've had a 8-24 Viper (expensive so must be best, right) and I sold it for a 3-12 mamba lite within 3 months as I found that the mamba was the much better scope for <50yrd air rifle (normal hunting, plinking range). The viper was "better" at 65yrd target shooting but it was so fussy at low mag that I never liked it for hunting.

I'm sure you'll enjoy it. I've removed the paint from the ejection port on mine, and will also do the barrel and guide. The paint wearing kind of adds a used patina to the gun imho, and as you say, they're not exactly expensive.

I also own a Tanfoglio Witness 1911 (M1911A1 clone) which is a nice piece. I've put aftermarket wooden grips on mine which set the gun off imo. I'll put up pics tomorrow if I remember lol. I also have a 6mm Desert Eagle .50AE blowback pistol and a Dan Wesson 6" 4.5mm .357 revolver

I'd also like to get a Beretta 92F/FS blowback pistol - this would set off my collection nicely!

That sounds good with the wooden grips, I like that you can add any 1911 grips to them.

I quite like the look of the Colt Government M45 CQBP, but the 1911 that used to be the Tangfolio now has a massive Remington logo on the side which put me off getting that.

Whats the best way to load the bbs? Is there some sort of speed loader available?

I made a speed loader out of an old bic pen tube with the lid opened up to allow the bbs to flow through. What I then do is pull the magazine spring right the way to the bottom - this allows a gap to place the bic pen in place and tip all the bbs in one go. I marked the pen tube at the point where the bbs are to fill the magazine.

Here's my Tanfoglio Witness with wooden grips - shame if the design has changed. It's another great back yard can killer :D

Shot one of these at the shooting show, was dead set against it due to its looks - I don't agree with military looking air rifles, but it was a lot of fun.

Was good for short distance work, I believe they may be working on a 12 ftlb version soon.
