The Air Rifles & Pistols thread

This is why I asked in here :)

It looks a decent little kit, from what I remember, X20 suppressor, padded carry bag, stoeger sights, some little laser attachment thing.

I'm looking at spending 150 or so, although I've also enquired about a BSA lightning XL but am yet to hear back from that.

The ultimate question is what do you want to use it for? Pests, Target or general plinking?

I've had a BSA Lightning XL. Horrid little thing to be honest.
Also, lasers are for toys, they are of no benefit to a rifle unless you are using a laser designator on a night vision scope.

Mmm interesting, I thought the Brummy made BSA's were decent.

The laser was just what was included in the bundle, it's not something I would want :)

I've shot a few friends Lighnings XL (one Tactical and one wood stock) and both were exactly what I expected. They both felt a little rough for the money whilst shooting but I'd use them as a "workhorse" rifle which could take a few knocks and bangs in the field and still be good enough for 30yard accuracy.

All my PCP's (4 of) on the other hand have shot beautifully but felt a little fragile for serious field work even though they probably weren't. I mean unless you were shooting from a static position (ratting etc) you'd be worried everytime you banged one against a fence post as you were crossing a hedge line for example or if you had to go through bramble etc.

My Lightning just felt rough. It may have been more pleasant with a decent spring but I didn't want to pay the money for it.
I've recently got rid of my R10 as I wanted to free up some cash for a new shotgun, and have bought another Ultra for £250 with scope included. You'd just need a pump or cylinder and it's a cracking little rifle.

The thing I don't like about the Lightning is the trigger. One stage and a plastic blade. Just feels rubbish after using my HW97. Mine is a Birmingham made one, from about 10 years ago, so not sure if they have improved it by now.

Not a bad little airgun though. Recoil is quite harsh, but can be accurate with the right hold. Very light weight and pointable, would be great as a budget hunting tool. I put a Chambers tuning kit in mine and that seemed to help get rid of the twang and it c0cks very smoothly.

I think a HW95 would be your best bet, if you can find one in budget.

Oh wait, I'm thinking of the Webley Longbow, not my Lightning XL. From what I recall it was ok, I just traded up to a PCP fairly quickly from it.

There is no way to know unless he can tell you, or you can run it through a chrono should you meet.
It most likely is full power though.

Theres a hw80 on freeads for sale for £125 im very tempted by. Needs a tidy up and a service but after that it can easily fetch £250-300

Can't go wrong with an HW80, probably one of the finest break barrel rifles around. Its solidly built but as a consequence quite heavy. Shouldn't be too difficult to pick one up for around £150

New scope came yesterday. I just went with the one that looked the coolest going by the pictures.

It is HUGE, bigger than i thought. Something you would see of a 50.cal rifle...

Mounts was 20mm and i need 11m mounts so had to order some of them now. Hope they are high enough for the scope. :p
