The Air Rifles & Pistols thread

What.

If that's OK, then surely it's perfectly acceptable to apply the same logic to shooting annoying children.

This didn't really come out as I intended, but nevertheless I don't really think that you can class children in the same category as rodents.

Having said that I now withdraw my earlier comments, as this is something I would never actually do myself.

Shooting any animals with air weapons should be avoided unless:

  1. You can legitimately do so without breaking the law and you are intending to kill it (IE pest control, rabbit hunting) and you have the skill to do so cleanly (humanely).
  2. You have a suitable gun to kill it (IE a rifle, or something like a ratcatcher for rodents).

There should be no reason to ever use a Pellet/BB pistol on animals in my opinion.

@BusError - Some great 2nd hand guns on airgunbbs forum. If you go and register you can view their for sale section. I just had a quick look and there is a tidy Rapid MKII, a tasty HW100 and an AA EV2.

Hello!

So I was in Keswick on Saturday and happened to wander into an army surplus store which also had a huge range of air rifles and pistols, and it appears I made an impulse buy!

I've never shot air pistols properly (or rifles, really) for that matter, but I had a go on my cousins rifle last weekend and loved it. I've also got experience of target shooting the L85A2 (and a few various pistols) at ranges when I was in the army, and always loved it (plus it's given me a good grounding for weapons safety!) Plus it's a sport I've been wanting to get into for quite some time!

Anyway! I picked up a lovely Co2 Hammerli S26 pistol plus targets, 1.77s and spare gas for £126, and it shoots like a dream. My only issue is finding adequate land on which to fire safely, as I live in a house share with a small garden.

I'd like to join a local club in the Chester area, and was wondering if anybody knew of any decent ones around? I've got a car so don't mind travelling some distance. Also, has anybody ever negotiated a decent deal with a farmer for occasional use of his land? :P

Will be looking to buy a rifle in future if all goes well!

Ta!

Not an airgun but 22lr thought some of you might be interested to see it. I bought it at auction yesterday based on the photo and happened i was the only one that bid. Happy days. :D

Very nice and very jealous. I've been pondering applying for a FAC/SGC but need due reason for the FAC so i've just started attending a firearms club at another range (different to my air rifle club/range) and absolutely loved using the Ruger 10/22 and Sig 522 last week.

When I get through my probation i can apply for a FAC and I'm quite keen to pick a .22lr in the future. One of the chaps at the range is bringing his 44 Magnum for me to have a go with this week so i'm quote stoked to have a go!

Very good, see if you can have go with an Enfield 303. Such a nice firearm but boy do they kick. :)

There's a dedicated Air Rifle Range at Sealand (North Wales) Shooting School just outside Chester just before you get on the A55 from Chester towards Deeside Ind. Est. think it was around £5 an Hour (This was a while back so might have increased...) you can buy targets/pellets/air at the Shop, they had all sorts of flyers there for different Local Clubs last time I was there.

I know there's a Field Target Club that are based in Llanarmon-yn-Ial Nr. Mold on the land of a Carp Fishery too: http://fortairgunclub.com/ And there used to be a 'Private' Indoor Shooting Range on Deeside Ind. Est. but that might be gone now, could also always ask at Sealand Ranges.

Thats a long term dream rifle to own lol. .303 is really expensive though as there's naff all surplus left except in the middle east apparently from my reading. Also new .303 appears to be expensive so a lot of folks who shot .303 seem to reload which means additional licensing if I went down that route lol

I'm just about to join the club with a HW50 (HW99 from Europe) in .22, and a HW40 second hand in .177.

I've already purchased some mods for the HW50 and will be looking at some farm pest control along with some backyard target practice.

Hopefully will be heading towards a shooting range as a few work colleagues are owners.

Anyone recommend a 177 air rifle for target shooting for Around £140.

Don't matter if it's spring or co2.

I was thinking the Remington Express 177 scope combo.

Must have iron sights.
Thanks.

No no no, Remmington Express is a pile of trash.

I had a play with one last year. A newish guy to my range brought one (he disappeared after 3 visits), he had just bought.

Machining and woodwork finishing is poor, Trigger is heavy. It kicks like a mule and takes a stupid amount of force to **** it compared to any other springer i've used.
Also the scope it came with as part of the package, whilst having a modest amount of adjustment, the glass was as milky as hell.

AVOID AVOID AVOID

LOL! :p

No, they don't. I've shot a .303 Mk4, and it was a beautiful thing to shoot. Old Indian supply, so the furniture had seen a hard life, but it still shot accurately. The recoil was mostly a gently shove to the shoulder, rather than a kick.

Try firing some dodgy Russian-sourced 7.62mm down a Mosin-Nagant carbine, and then you'll know about kick! (Also flames. Yes, flames came out of the barrel )

I miss shooting air rifles, but I've nowhere I could shoot one at and I find target shooting just too tedious.
