*** The all new Apple iPad thread - Keep all iPad stuff in here ***

Something which is not so heavy would be nice. It is uncomfortable to hold for long periods.

Agreed. Any real upgrade would be...

1. The display.
2. The weight.

Anything else is going to be secondary...

(Oh perhaps USB ports?)

And another thing I spoke to the Apple store dood this morning...

Mouse cursor... Im sure eventually the iPad will be unlocked to allow mouse usage (i.e. a step closer towards laptops etc) e.g. magic mouse usage?

The weight? It's all glass and battery basically so i doubt it can get much lighter.

As for USB port, it's call the sync socket with camera kit.

As for mouse, never, then it would blur the line towards a laptop even more. The device itself loses its identity of its touch screen when you dilute it with a mouse.

1. Glass/Battery - Honestly dont know how much these things weight in the iPad but I see your point.

2. USB port - Sorry Ive just gotten my iPad today what is the sync socket? I thought the Camera kit is basically an SD card slot?

3. Magic mouse - Why not? It already has a dock/keyboard so the "touch screen" element for typing is already gone when you have it on the dock surely? I was using this thing on a dock the other day with Keynote, and thought, damn would be nice to have a mouse to edit things on screen rather having to prod the screen whilst trying to use the keyboard too. I dont see why it cant be done.

I thought it weighed a bit at first.. but got used to it quickly enough. I even now hold it like a phone! So a hand on either side (portrait mode) and i can type away like that and its not much of a concern.
Well it has the 30?pin usb socket so.

You lot need to get some muscles :) It's light as it is, what do you expect for something made out of alu, and containing a large slab of glass with a battery that spans the entire vertical height of the device? They've crammed a serious amount of electronics in such a thin device. As usual their engineers just excel at stuff like this.

Right now I find myself wishing that Safari had navigation gestures like the Macbook trackpads have. It'll page navigation a million times better instead of repeatedly reaching for the top of the display where the forward/back buttons are.

For those on 4.2 beta

How are you finding safari as its not meant to refresh the pages so much now when you change tabs. *like the other browser on the app store does, can't think of its name right now*

2 parts to the CCK.
One is the SD card reader, other one has a USB port on it for direct connection to a camera.

Had a look in a well known high street electrical store as I was happening by. Picked up an iPad to look at. Ooh, Cydia! Guess there's no need to jailbreak that one then. :D

Loving the iPad when i can get it off the kids. Angry Birds keeps em quiet.

Used it last night for editing pics on. Upload from camera with the "Camera Connector Kit" then edit with FilterStorm and finally upload to Flickr. All from the comfort of comfy chair in the lounge.

Nice see one of the gf1 fan here over from tp :) is filterstorm really that good worth the money. Do u have a iMac or any apple system too as wondering when u got ur images from gf1 to iPad edited them are they edited from raw? Then what ur best way getting them to ur system?

FilterStorm is brilliant, can't wait for the dev to get FilterStorm Pro released, but needs ios4.2 :(
Currently just use the CCK to get images off the card or camera. Edit them, then use FlickStackr to get em on line.
Looking at getting an iMac at some point since I never use the pc for anything apart from editing photos or on the tinternet. Saying that, typing this up on the iPad since its less hassle than starting up the pc or laptop.

Stupid question most probably but can we purchase a refurbed ipad from Apples american store? or would it fobb us off?

Im seriously thinking about buying an Ipad for going on holiday next week but the thing that worries me is the resale value of it when the newer version comes out whenever that may be, only looking at a 32GB wifi version as i have a Iphone 4 for when im out and about. buying something for £500 which may only be worth say £200 in 5 months time isnt a nice feeling lol but saying that though i dont HAVE to upgrade to the new version straight away when its released
