*** The all new Apple iPad thread - Keep all iPad stuff in here ***

Worth it I imagine. If it's being hand carried then you wont pay any extra tax.

You're *very* unlikely to pay tax on it but you're legally meant to and given that it's a product not available currently in the UK it wouldn't be hard for them to put two and two together if they searched your bags for some reason. Yeah, it's incredibly unlikely but it is possible.

If it were open and used and in the hand luggage that'd help too I guess?

Just realised that it's May 10 that Apple are due to reveal pricing here, which is two days before he leaves the states. Win :D.

EDIT: Actually, that's just what I did with my MBP! Bought it in the NYC store, used it around California for a few weeks, put the box in my suitcase (and the receipt in the pockets of a pair of trousers!) and had the MBP with me on the plane for using.
Didn't get searched at customs or anything, but even if I had the fact of no-reciept and laptop being used would have proved I wasn't planning on selling it!

Apparently so. However all is not lost...

.... if you are an iPhone developer you can use either of the following:

http://github.com/tcurdt/iProxy

http://code.google.com/p/iphone-socks-proxy/

to tether your iPad to iPhone.

Finally being an iPhone Dev is useful... :D

iPhone Devs can add multiple UDIDs can't they? I seem to remember there being a thing where dev's were selling the service of adding people's UDID's so they could get iPhone OS 3.0 Beta..

Will get a mate at work who's a paid up Dev to add my iPhone's UDID in that case then :D.

Anyone else tried the marvel app? I'm not a big comic fan but this app is a thing of beauty. It really shows off the ipads screen and slickness of presentation. I hope it's a precursor of the magazine apps to come

I am realy not to sure what to do just yet ,

My step mum is in New York form 12 th of May for 5 days so i can get an import no probelms.

Couple of questions please

1. If I ordered a 32GB 3G version would it work over ?
2. What would i need to get mobile with it ? Something like a PAYG or Rolling contract from some one to get it working ?

Extra info on the camera connection kit people may want.

MacRumors said:
- USB headphone/headset will work on the iPad through the connection kit. Skype phone call was tested and "the quality was just terrific" - Tidbits
- USB keyboards can be used - TUAW
- iLounge had some early notes which revealed that the iPad emails pictures out at 2048x1536 resolution rather than the iPhone's 800x600 resolution, but if you copy/paste the images into an email, you can get full resolution images emailed out.
- Once you connect to your Mac, iPhoto brings in full resolution images with EXIF information intact. - iLounge

Seems more people are starting to 'like' the iPad now then when they first mentioned it and everyone was like "how rubbish :P"
of course apple haters hate everything....

Will want to buy one sometime... but probably when there's a big price drop :p

I just can't put mine down. It rocks.

It's worse as the battery is so good it lasts all day so I don't even have the excuse that it needs charging.

The Wi-Fi + 3G model is going to be the same here and the USA with UMTS/HSDPA (850, 1900, 2100 MHz) and GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz), so yep it'll work here.

Re the 3G data-plan, I'm not sure either :(. I'm pretty sure that the Keynote said that whilst the iPad 3G will be sold unlocked by Apple, international (so everyone apart from the USA) won't have specific data-plans available until June/July. Though as it's unlocked, any micro-SIM card will work in one.

I just caved and found a 64Gb iPad that will be in the UK with duty paid on Wednesday then sent out via the eBay seller via RMSD, he had 10 listed.

£550 plus £15 p&p

Fingers crossed it's actually legit now :p

No Hovis, sorry but this should be proof enough :)

Assuming I am looking at the same ebay seller he has 4 of the 10 left. If I could be sure he's legit I would be so tempted. The current exchange rate puts the 64gb version at £455.
