*** The all new Apple iPad thread - Keep all iPad stuff in here ***

You buy Applecare which gives you a code, you then apply that code against the serial number.
I will probably extend the Applecare on mine when it gets close to the year depending on the cost.

Great stuff, so if this one from eBay does indeed turn up, even if I don't have an Apple receipt I should be able to return it to an Apple store?

Nice to use the iPad as a PDF book reader. trying to learn Photoshop Elements 8 using Photoshop elements 8 for dummies:

If yours does turn up I am going to literally kick myself for not ordering last night.

It's hugely unlike me to take a gamble like that, £500+ is a hell of a lot of money for me, but I figured i'll have Buyer Protection and Paypal support and in the worse case scenario, I'd report it to the bank.

Now I know if it does turn up, I can still return it to an Apple Store if it's faulty in some way, I'm happier. The only thing I can lose is a bit of time getting the money back if it's a con, but the guy sold 20 iPod classics in Feb, so he must have connections somewhere.

I bought an iPad dock the other day. Guy had good feedback and listed 20 docks. Bought one and then got the email from Ebay that he has disappeared. Going through paypal now to get the money back. Dont wanna be a kill joy but hope it works out. Trouble is the paypal thing takes so long to get money back.

Yeah, i appreciate it's a possibility, but it might well pay off, I've been lucky with eBay before and actually got something for a good price :p

Aye I'm usually the same. Many years ago, in ebays infancy, I was ripped off and got nowhere with ebay/paypal getting it sorted. I haven't used ebay since. It does seem safer now for the buyer.

He's just replied to my message, he's expecting them Wednesday and will be sending them out via RMSD. 12 month warranty (apparently) and he will include a proof of purchase.

I'm not that lucky :p

There seems to be quite a few 64gb ones for around the £580 mark on the ebay including shipping now, getting tempted to get one from them

I know what you mean. With the US price for the 64gb version, and factoring in things like US tax and our VAT that's not too bad a price (relatively speaking as it's still bloody expensive :D).

What to do what to do. The trouble is if the UK price is stupidly high then the US sourced ones on the bay will surely go up in price.

I wouldn't be too worried about buying iPads off eBay. There are a hell of a lot of people trying to make a quick buck out of the fact that they've been released in America and not over here yet.

Plus I think they'd be less likely to rip people off on a £500+ item since they know that pretty much no-one is going to let a £500 fraud go unpunished unlike say, one for £30 or so.

£320 gets you a base ipad in the state get that service that give you a post box in the US and have them ship it to you and there you have it, would be probs be less than what apple are going to charge over here soon i would expect it to be £400

You need to add sales tax at the appropriate rate for the State you are shipping to, plus international shipping and them VAT when importing to the UK.

I'm still not sure whether to do this or wait......I'm leaning towards waiting for UK prices to be announced I think.
