*** The all new iPhone 4 thread - Keep all iPhone 4 stuff in here ***

So I have a bit of a dilemma.

I've got an iPhone 3GS which has had a legitimate iPhone OS 4 beta on it but I reverted it back to 3.1.3. It works perfectly unless I try and do a restore in which case I have to use libusb and a terminal tweak to make it work.

I've requested an envelope from o2 for the recycle buy back but do I run this restore procedure again and send it back with a clean 3.1.3 which will error if anyone tries to restore it again or should I install the iOS4 GM build (again, legitimately) before I sell it to them?

I'm planning on doing this in the next week or so before iOS4 is officially released to the masses.

You won't get the phone for free on a £35pm tarriff, not a chance in hell. You need to be on at least the £50pm tarriffs before you get a free phone, however the £35pm tarrif on O2 has unlimited data and unlimited texts (as do they ll).

I'd be suprised in the iPhone 4 tarrifs and cost are much different from the current 3GS offerings and costs.

£50 or so pm is just nasty :(

Rather pay just over half of that and have something which is arguably better.

It needs to be cheaper than previously, not by a lot, but a bit more.

Contracts haven't been announced yet, and this time they'll probably differ somewhat between providers.

But I'm paying £35 a month for my 3GS, and the cost of the phone with this was around £180. Think it's pretty safe to say you won't get the phone for free at that monthly cost.

Insanity tbh. Its pretty ridiculous that its priced at pretty much double is competitors, and its without a doubt not twice the product.
Guess I'll be going to Android unless T-Mobile have some great retention deals.

I'd send it back with the iOS4 build on it. If the build is legal then you've done nothing wrong.

Anyone know how much on PAYG? I have a contract sim card instead and my old £G should be laid to rest! :)

Agreed. The GM build is the same that the consumer would see if the updated it to iOS 4.0 anyway. You're just giving it to them a couple of days in advance, and by the time it reaches anyone else it'll be released and they won't know a thing.

Have only had a quick look, but on T-Mobile's website they still want £60 for the Desire @ £35 a month on an 18 month contract (which is what I'm on at those prices I mentioned). That's less than £100 cheaper than the current price for a 3GS on the same monthly spend. Maybe there are better deals available elsewhere?

This o2 recycle thing, it says about -100% value if it is water damaged.. The immersion indicators on mine are both red and have been for years, so I guess they will class this as being 'water damaged' even though there's nothing wrong with it. Anyone got any experience of this?

Mobiles.co.uk and Mobilephonesdirect have far better deals than T-Mobile directly.

Just a heads up for anyone thinking of getting an invisible shield for their new shiny iPhone 4. If you go to the zagg site and go to the iPad giveaway offer, they give you an extra 50% off code. It says a 'chance' at getting one, but i got mine as soon as i signed up so i guess it goes for everyone.

I just ordered a face and rear cover for my future iPhone 4 and a face cover for my old 3G since my gf is getting it and it's gonna be chucked in her bag with keys and things, cost me £17.50 all in all.

Now the biggest choice of them all.... black or white....

Watchdog covered this recently I think. I assume it is the external indicators that are red? They said the smallest of things set them off such as sweat. Obviously your internal ones are not but I assume you void the warranty if you open it up? Cheeky beggars

black or white....

Thanks for the info - Just ordered one for myself :)
I'm leaning towards black, the white looks too industrial.

Had my Black 3g for a long time now, Really like the look of the white with the black bumpers but interested to see a black one with silver bumpers on
