I consider myself as artist, whether you will agree or not is entirely up to you, It makes no difference anyway. My work involves taking ordinary signs and posters with similar, but very subtly altered replicas. If I see a notice, poster, sign or anything I will take it, recreate it, change and alter the wording, pictures etc. and put it back. I go as far as to replicate folds, creases and tears. The changes I make are always subtle in that they would go un-noticed. I usually change one word, add deliberate typos or sometimes change pictures.
I don't want anyone to notice my pieces, or see them. I find it interesting how people ignore such posters, and read a sign without actually reading it. You should all stop to read these things more carefully and see if it says what you think it does. Does that really say wet paint? Or does the smell of fresh paint, the sight of workmen, brushes and painting take your mind off the fact that a wet paint sign has been taken, carefully changed and replaced to say something totally different? My best work is the work that goes genuinely un-noticed, it defeats the very purpose of any kind of art, but I enjoy it.
Not much of a confession OCUK I know, hopefully it's an interesting one however.
