Are people really getting that fussed about them sim-free from the Apple store?
I was planning on heading to West-Quay in Southampton on Friday morning to grab mine, but if there's likely to be a huge queue of silly people, then I probably won't bother.

Friday morning before opening yeh, maybe even Thursday night if your that sad but Wednesday 2pm. Just LOL.
It's a huge Apple launch, you know it will be the case without even needing to ask.
Yes it's just a phone, but you have to remember that there are many hardcore Apple fans out there. They clearly enjoy the queuing, they want to be there first, for the kudos, the television coverage, the chance of a free t-shirt and a high five, or just for plain blagging rights and to put on their Vlog.
This isn't likely to change with Apple anytime soon.
The other option if you don't want to queue for hours is find a non Apple shop that will be selling them and get there early.

Iv just had a email from vodafone saying my order for 4S 32GB white will be ready for pick up at 1pm tomorrow happy days
This has happened to me with every single product I've bought from Apple directly.
The money gets reserved, it seems to pop back (and I always think "omg they forgot to charge me!"), then alas a day or two later they charge me.
