What's the general thought on Comodo Free Internet Security these days?
It doesn't seem to get much of a mention anywhere either good or bad.

Never had any obvious issues with it but any fedback useful and whether it might be better to go for something like NOD32.

Malwarebytes is pretty awesome!!

Have been using the combination of AVG Free and Spybot S&D for the last 3 years but recently got one of those police fine viruses on my PC whenever I started it up neither AVG Free or Spybot S&D could remove it, it was suggested to try Malwarebytes and that did the job perfectly!. I'm considering moving away from AVG Free and Spybot S&D and using just MSE and Malwarebytes, would this be a wise move?

I gave up on comodo internet security a while ago as it was just getting too much of a pain in the neck to use (I lost count of the amount of times it blocked legitimate processes and programs), and I was happy that I was able to get shot of it without any of the problems others have had (most likely thanks to the windows 8 upgrade).

I'd doubt that AVG could find a virus even if it tried (this is from a former user who got hit by its more well known false positives issue along with one malicious item that it let through) and the program should be avoided (avast is miles better had has covered my backside more then once).

Would something like Norton or similar 1 year av be better than Avast or not?

Is it just people who don't know much about pc's who buy the packages like Norton?

Any reason why I should choose a norton or similar purchaseable av?

I would not waste your money on Norton.
I just started using Avasti having previously used Windows Defender and before that Nod32.
I am very please with Avasti. It works great, I find it very light with a good UI and what's more it is free.

You don't need to spend any money. Use a free AV.

I would go for Eset NOD32 or Kaspersky.

You don't need a paid version, personally something like Avast 8 free version and Malwarebytes anti-malware free version should be fine with common sense.

I've used both paid and free versions and not a lot of difference IMHO,NOD32 is overated, only paid ones I would go for are Bitdefender or Kaspersky if you want the best detection rate wise.
