Have been using bitdefender 2013 internet security, nice and easy to setup and use only issue i have it doesn't automatically enter game mode like it should and there support seemed unwilling to help much

What is BitDefedner Game Safe Mode? It is one of the features that is specially designed for gamers and heavy computer users. You can get this functions from BitDefender Internet Security or any other software products from BitDefender. When Game Safe mode is enabled, BitDefender security software will not interrupt users and less resource-intensive.

BitDefender Game Safe mode is a great setting for both gamers and non-gamers. For game player, if you play games under Windows 7 environment with BitDefender Internet Security 2011 installed, you can turn on the game mode to reduce any unwanted conflict between the game program and security software. This will ensure you have a great playing experience while your PC is under BitDefender’s protections.

Haha. Awful AV.

I don't understand why an AV would need to have a game mode?

Simple,it stops distractions in gaming ie you don't want any popup AV message has been updated with sound while you are in the thick of things,so basically you can play your online game in silent mode with no popups/sound so no distraction at all from your AV.

Strange because other AVs don't need to do that, they simply update and do their thing silently in the background anyway.

Avast for example has silent gaming mode,I'm using AVG 2013 IS at the moment, lightweight, quiet and don't notice anything while gaming,so it does depend on what AV you use.

Also "gaming mode" normally prevents background scanning which you really don't want while gaming.

Btw notice my AVG has this in advanced settings.

AVG offers a Gaming mode - a special setting that will supress any AVG warning or scheduled task while full-screen applications are running. It can be set separately for Firewall and the rest of AVG (General Gaming mode).

Exactly. Why do I want to know if the AV database has been updated? I only want to know if it has failed to update or if something has been found and needs my attention and if that's the case then I'll drop out of a game or video to give it that attention because that kind of thing takes priority.

In Avast you can turn off sounds and notifications but by default it rings a loud bell, shows you a large toast and speaks in a loud voice simply to tell you that it has done a good job by updating the database.

Why!

hi

I have nod32 AV and run windows 7 of which I use the windows based firewall but I do disable windows defender as the AV has antispyware.

I'm wondering if I should renew my nod32 AV license or perhaps pay that little bit extra and get nod smart security?

This has a firewall and some other features like antispam but is the smart security firewall any better than the windows 7 firewall?

cheers

Win7 firewall is ok,most users have a router so you are behind another layer of security and most have a hardware firewall anyway, personally I would not bother with a paid third party firewall but if you want to try a very good free one then Comodo firewall comes highly rated ,http://personalfirewall.comodo.com/ .

Well I have VM superhub router so I guess that is what you mean by behind a router?

I guess I will just stick with nod32 AV and windows 7 firewall.

thanks

Used Kaspersky for 2/3 yrs until last year when moved to Norton 360 (last product I ever bought from Comet ).

Ok but given I could not find 360 at a reasonable price have now moved to Bitdefender.

Installed without issue and appears to run well - we shall see !!
