What AV do you use the most?

i have to ask, why on earth would you want Avast to not automatically update? is it the annoying update notification noise? if so you can just turn that off.

out of all the AV's i've used (almost all of them) i've found Avast to be second only to NOD32 in it's level of unintrusiveness.

literally, after i've installed it and turned off the update notifier, i never hear from it again, until i need it - it's perfect! (it's gotten to the stage where i don't even notice that it's updated, leading to the frequent *oh, it's already up-to-date* upon trying to manually update it.)

Well it does make my PC go slow when it updates, whether this is a motherboard issue I dont know as Ive noticed peculiar performance issues with hard drive usage. Im going to change the motherboard soon anyway so I hope those issues are fixed.

But I can deal with the 5-10 seconds of slowness, but what I cant deal with and shouldnt have to really, is the delay it invokes when it tries to update immediately on booting into windows.

Its like I login to windows and the first thing that happens after avast loads (and it does that pretty quickly) is that it will try to update, resulting in everything else loading very slowly indeed. There should be an option to stop it doing this but so far just turning off automatic updates completely has stopped it. I cant really load any programs until its stopped updating.

You can do that by setting avast to start up once all other services have started up (that option is in the troubleshooting section of the setting menu) it should then update after everything else has loaded up (I think)

Yeah I already have that on, it still loads before most of the startup programs.

Guys, bit off an off-the-current-line question, but I currently run AVG Professional, and was wondering after reading loads of articles and write-ups on here whether I'm OK with sticking with AVG.

From what I can see, Kaspersky and NOD32 are the big dogs around here. Which do you think is the better out of them and why? I'm getting slightly disillusioned with AVG recently due to the way it does its stuff.

Well that's sealed it. I'm definitely moving then. I've been trying to find comparison reviews of NOD32, Avast and Kaspersky. Anyone got any? Or used them and can give feedback?

Hi guys Ive been using AVG Free for years but I think its too resourse hungry and whenever I install it on a new build I can notice the system slow down

Just woundering what else is there that doesnt use much resourses, Im not too bothered how good it is, I dont go on any dodgy sites or download from dodgy places, so do I even need an anti-virus?? Cheers

Always worth keeping an AV package on mate. Anything is better than nothing, no matter what.

Give some of the others a go if you're looking for a less resource-heavy application.

I've been using MSE since last year and is effective. Better than Avira and McAfee which I used before. MSE seems to use next to no resources compared to the two aforementioned AV products.
