What AV do you use?

Haven't used an AV for about 5-6 years.

I'm not the most saintly person when it comes to software either.

All the viruses ive ever had have come from windows bugs which an AV wont catch or from .exe files sent via email.

I'd rather be making backups than fiddling about with AV and slowing my PC down to a crawl.

Has anyone used antivirusonline.co.UK for nod32 discounts?
Student discounts are coming out at about £13.
Can't find any information about the site so don't know if it's safe or not

Need free AV for XP

Can anyone recommend me a free AV that won't expire for using XP in Oracle Vbox? Avast has expired and so I just installed AVG and that also tells me it'll expire in 29 days.

Ah excellent, thanks guys. I'll do AVG free. I might stay away from Avast now because I'm sure it was slowing down my browsing in Vbox, everything was really slow, whereas things seem considerably faster now with AVG.

I've been using Total 360 for a year or so now and with all 3 engines (Qihoo, Avira & Bit Defender) enabled its superb. Its light, quick and has zero popups trying to sell you stuff at every available moment.

Is AVG allowed to do this? They state that you can opt out but not all free software will have this option.

Someone once said if you don't pay for a product, you are the product. Someone else said 'no such thing as a free lunch'. I think both statements are fairly accurate in this case, and I know of one other major free AV company that seemingly does the same.

But at the end of the day, if you don't like it how AVG is operating (and they are a business so need to cover costs) pick a different product. It's pretty simple right?

Someone want to give me a suggestion what AV-program to choose for a Win7 Pro/Ultimate 64-bits computer? At the moment I'm running Avira on my computer but thinking of changing when I get my new rig.

Preferably something that doesn't take a lot of power when being used and is pretty easy to use.

I've heard good things about Eset, but what is your opinions?

AVG Woes

I've been using AVG Free for more years than I care to remember but it really has me tearing my hair out the last couple of days. First of all started getting pop up messages from the taskbar to upgrade to AVG 2015. Ran the installer but falls over with an error message which according to the AVG website means the internet isn't connected - well it most certainly is!

Tried installing via the separate installer from the AVG website - same result.

Used the AVG clean up tool to eliminate all trace and clean install - same result.

So I just cannot get AVG to install at all and now relying on the built in Windows protection.

Any other thoughts/suggestions or should I move to Avast or Macaffee?
