Does anybody get any comics or graphic novels?

I had a look in Forbidden Planet's collection and decided id have a look at some (there was a 3 for £15 offer on at the time - still is I think) and I was impressed.

I got Arm of Kannon 1, 2, 3, Cowboy Bebop, Bt-x 1, 2 and i think they're all pretty good - though short lived.

Music zone also has some cheap comics, I picked up a Spawn book containing 6 programmes for £4 and 'Judge Anderson' (female version of Judge Dredd) for £3, both being pretty good.

Didn't know whetther to make a new thread, so I just plonked it in here.

Fieldy im sure I saw the mahoromantic stuff in travelling man, will check next time im in town ;)

Im more anime than manga but have a few older bits n pieces lying about. Akira, GITS, Lonewolf, really should get round to buyin more.

Were you thinking Fashionable Male there (sorry if you dont get that, someone some day will :p)

ROFL,

Its a store similar to FP mate, most stuff is cheaper in there as well think most of the mangas are about 50p-£1 cheaper.

And its 2 shops down from FP (lol that annoyed them)

They also seem to get a lot better anime/manga stuff in than FP.

My mate also owns an indie shop up here so will see if he has ay of them (or if he could get ya them ;) )

I rememebr when Channel 4 used to show a loada manga late night/early morning.
Sci-Fi channel used to have a load on as well (altho I aint exactly been checking lol)

Never nowt on the TV now :(

Gimme a little help here, film about a bunch of guys that can turn into dragons, called legend of 4 kings or summit ?? That the right title ?

Second that, Ledged of the 4 kings. First or second thing I ever watched, in '94 on channel 4 when they still showed decent stuff on terrestrial even though it was on a 1 ish in the morning, or there about’s, try staying awake for that its a killer when you are studying for your gcse’s.

Personally, I as a fan of Noir would say that it is best watched in large chunks as you get a better idea of the story that way. In small chunks I tend to get bored with the slow initial pace. Does not change the fact that it is a cracking series though. The ost’s get played in my car all the time, such a nice selection of music.

Just finished a marathon FMP session around my training guess it might just be Noir or Witch Hunter Robin next, well until all of the Evangelion platinum dvd’s are out.

Many happy returns Werewolf and fieldy, slightly belated as it may be.

cheers nobody916 :)

I remember the same timeslot, they also had Battle Angel and quite a few others, including 3 x 3 eyes* with i beleive the original streamline english dub.

I've just this minute finished Haibane Renmei and I really had forgotten how great it was :)
Although I do feel a bit of a wuss sitting here with tears in my eyes :)

Now for some eva lovin :D

*which reminds me, I really want to rewatch that sometime.

cheers dude, and thanks again to ~Divine~Wind~, i was at FP about two weeks back, wish i'd have known about travelling man :(

just finished watching Eva Platinum Volume 6, and I keep being suprised at the difference the remastering has made with each new volume (and in this case the directors cuts*).

The amount of extra detail i'm seeing with the remastered episodes compared to the originals is huge at times, especially where there is a lot of hues of similar colours (such as red/orange) rather than major differences in the colour.
The picture is also much sharper, and the 5.1 sound is put to great use in places such as where you have a lot of people talking, and I just noticed the water effects on the menu screen.

If anyone hasn't got eva yet, definately get the remastered/platinum version.

[edit]
the disc also has a preview for Elfen Lied that looks pretty good :) (i'm just waiting for DVDPacific to list it)

[edit2]
just watched GITS:SAC volume 5, some good episodes on the disk, and a couple of great tachikoma shorts ;)

[edit3 01:31 23/03/05]
Just watching Love Hina for the first time in a couple of years and i'd forgotten how funny it is, especially Shinobu and Motoko's expressions when they get embaressed :)
and i just spotted a guest appearence by a gekigenger (nadesico) model in episode 15 when sara is going through ketaro's things.

*as it's my first time with the directos cuts of 21-23 I must admit I was a bit suprised at some of the changes.

Who here is following Samurai Champloo, incidentally? Looking forward to finding out how the series ends, and whether there'll be a second season!:) (and for the DVDs to be released here;))

PS. anyone know what "champloo" actually means, btw?

Ok time for my weekly post :) , the magic question this week is where do you kind and knowledgeable folk get your manga from. I know this has been mentioned else where but I can't find it, or maybe I am just blind (probably the latter). That aside I was looking at a large uk retailer of literature etc and I found when doing a search for Neon Genesis Evangelion both a standard edition revision/release 2 and a special edition, what is the difference, I could not find any they were both paperbacks, similar price, synopsis etc. Secondly is there any benefit getting manga from the US like there is when purchasing dvd's (collectors box's, extra material, goodies etc).

Werewolf, I have them but I’m desperately trying to avoid watching them until I have them all, I know what my appetite will be like once I watch the first episode :) . I notice that there is a "Neon Genesis Evangelion - Movie Collection Box Set" (to do a cut and paste job) in the UK but not the US, Is there any difference or is it just the packaging and a heftier price tag?

[edit] As an aside and ot if you ever want to watch something good I recommend "Seven Samurai", classic even if it is three and a half hours long and in black and white. Although the subs are dire and I picked up more with my limited knowledge of Japanese that I would have thought (thats just how bad the subs are).

re the manga, I suspect the release 2 is probably just a reprint, maybe in a slightly different format (I beleive Tokyopop changed from one size of book to a more standard one a while back and rereleased a lot of their titles in the new size).
With regards to the special edition i'm not sure, it might have someting like a few extra pages of colour illustrations.

The Eva movie set is I beleive just the two movies repackaged into a single set (same discs as the individual R2 UK ones), I don't think there were any changes compared to the R1.

I'll try and pick up a copy of 7 samurai some time:)

I've spent most of the week watching Noir and Love Hina for the first time in years and really enjoying them, I'm picking up on a lot of jokes etc in LH that I can't remember before :)
I'm also enjoying Noir slightly more the second time round, partly I suspect as i'm able to watch it with the volume up high (the parents are away), and partly because i'm aware of the plot beforehand :)

I'm hoping to make a proper start on Rahxephon in a few days, i've had disc one here for ages and watched up to disk 3 - i'm just waiting on disk 4 and 7 to rewatch it from the start :)

Thanks for the info. I suspected the Eva film collection was just a rehash, one way to find out, time to order that up :) . Just for the record, if you did not know Seven Samurai is not anime it is a traditional film, but an exceedingly good film in my opinion (I just love foreign cinema). Just get the BFI one as it is full length not cut to bits.

Personally as far as Noir goes, for me it is not the fact that I know the plot now it is more so that I see the interaction between the characters that I did not see before. It is a deep series and not overt in more ways that one. Being the second series I watched after my prolonged absence from the genre (Eva being the first) I did not get many of the nuances that were there and as such missed parts of the plot, until now. But oh the music...

Waiting for discs, ah, turn up please Eva disc seven got to watch it again. I feel a count down coming up until a large Eva session.

If you are afraid of/don't want to aggravate parents, get a good pair of headphones, it worked for me when I had that issue, but nowhere as good as surround sound I might just add. Oh the joys of living by yourself :D . Downsides getting enough sockets to run all of the av / computer gear I have and paying for it myself.

K started to watch my evangelion collection again and i'm really tempted to get the platinuim set, are they really that much better though i'm a really big fan of it so probably get it just for the extra content
PS does anyone know if adv will realese a platinuim box set

They also had (dunno if they still do) all the noir and hellsing dvd's for only a tenner each! :)
