Patlabor I think it's OVA, TV, New files OVA then the movies.

AMG! is either
OVA's then movie or TV series 1 then TV series 2, as it restarts in the TV series and follows the manga much closer.

I'm just debating watching EL, Kurimi or Constantine tonight :)

OVA???
whats that?

Original Video Animation (OVA) or Original Animation Video (OAV)

Stuff that gets released straight to video in Japan rather than being made for TV. They usually have a higher budget than TV series and thus better quality animation and art and tend to be 30+ minutes an episode but with fewer episodes.

Like the new Hellsing Ultimate.

yup OVA/OAV straight to video :)

Usually a better budget per episode than TV, and better quality animation thanks to that and the fact that rather than trying to get the episodes out one a week they can spend more time on them :)

The original Bubblegum Crisis and Oh My Goddes series are both good examples of older OVA's, whilst Hellsing Ultimate and Gunbuster/Aim for the Top 2 are examples of newer OVA's :)

and the OMG is OVA is better than the TV?

I'm not sure, I haven't really compared the two, if anything i'd say they were probably about the same.
However the OVA series came out about 12 years ago and the TV series is about a year old, which means that the cost of producing a similar quality of animation would have dropped considerably :)

Finally got hold of Marmalade Boy:Ultimate Scrapbook 1 after a few false starts from ebay stores. :D Then I find out Funimation have gained distribution rights for Tokyopop anime and I could have probably got it cheaper and in new packing in a few months, oh well.

Still nothing as fun as tracking down rare and hard to find anime to add to my collection although for some odd reason Mobile Suit Gundam volumes 7 and 9 are impossible to find while the rest are available. :( I hope I've got them in the post though I'll have to wait and see.

Watched Arcadia of My Youth today. Very good Harlock movie, lots of emotion, plenty of message and some spaceships although it focused more on the message than some of the others I've seen and less on the action. I just love Matsumoto's style, Harlock is just cool. :D

No idea I haven't watched it yet. I imagine it should be pretty good although I'm not sure how old the show is or what quality the Japanese masters were in.

i ask as my version :o isn`t all that great so am looking to improve on it :)
please let me/us know after you have watched it :)
show aired about 1994 i think,so the animation is a bit dated in style

BWAHAHA!

Had Revolutionary Girl Utena on order with DVDBoxoffice for a week even though it's apparently In Stock, 1-5 days with nothing happening and I happen to check the canadian * where they just happened to have 1 left in stock so I ordered it. and cancelled the DVDBoxoffice order. :D

If it comes as fast as Aika it should be here by next Friday and I'll have the full series then.

BOOOO!
Turns out my Mobile Suit Gundam Vol 9 wasn't in stock after all so I'm going to have to keep an eye out for that one. Just hope vol 7 works out or I'll be missing 2 out of the 10 and it'll drive me nutty.

H'okay got a whole day of anime lined up, I just recived the shinkai collection and boys be...1 and 2 as well as kiki's delivery service (I could watch that all day BTW) :)

Haven't seen Boys Be but you're in for a treat with those 3 they are all fantastic. :D

Typical isn't it DVDPacific have just filled my order for Gundam Vol 7 so now I might end up with 2 copies of that and no Vol 9 :(

To make things worse I fogot to watch Porco Rosso on Film 4 yesterday, doh!

EDIT: OOOOH!

Planetes and Mars Daybreak are getting collections released in November, both of which I was interested in but didn't fancy buying all the seperates.

EDIT 2: Forgot I watched Venus Wars last night. Old but a pretty good action/sci-fi war anime. A bit corny in parts but I enjoyed it.

Mars Daybreak is a good fun series, although nothing hugely special (not suprising as it's based on a PS2 game;)).
The animation and some of the characters are pretty good :)

I might order the Planates collection depending on the price :)

just watched this ,kinda reminded me of Stellvia,a bit anyway.not too sure about the ending but maybe we can hope for a sequel or movie
cheepest place i found was dvdpacific(no surprise there :) )
but i have been hit with customs and VAT when i have ordered stuff from them before :(
still was quite a bit cheeper than dvd boxoffice ,whom i get 90% of my discs from though

Just watched Patlabor:The Original Series. a lot of fun even with the slightly dated look. Looking forward to the TV series now which I'll probably start on tonight. I love the personalities of the different characters.

Loopstah have you seen the movies?

I found the first one much better after having seen the TV series, although I need to get the original files (i've seen all 3 films, the TV series and the "new files").
I think because the TV series and OVA's explain the relationships between the characters.

Nope I haven't seen the movies yet, when I get a bit of money I might splash out on the fancy LE versions.

I have really got into these films over the last week and have been glued to Film4 for hours. My beloved OH thinks I've gone mad as I hardly ever watch tele. Now I'll have to read the whole of this enormous thread to find out what else I've been missing.

By the way, I really didn't think that I would enjoy the films with subtitles, but now I crave Japanese lessons.

Our 9 year old son has been way ahead of me as his favourite film ever is Spirited Away which is now sadly a little bit scratched due to being watched over and over. (Any hints on polishing out the scratch - does toothpaste really work?)

OK, what do we move on to now that I've got the bug too? Any suggestions?

well the rest of the Ghibli films are well worth watching :)
also my personal faves are please teacher, please twins, stellvia
there are a few for you to research on,i expect the rest of the otaku will give their opinions in due course :D
