Well I just watched:

Love Hina Series 1 Episodes 1-24
Love Hina Series 2 Episode 25
Love Hina Christmas Special
Love Hina Spring Special
Love Hina Again Episodes 1-3

Other then being extremely tired and having a lot of trouble focusing, I highly recommend this harem anime. While there is little to set it apart form anything else that’s about, I really am a sucker for a good harem anime and this one is a doozy.

I also feel that the episodes and specials after the original series actually detract form the magic if it… but that’s just my opinion….

On the way I have:

Exel Saga
Nadia – The secret of blue water
Gasarki
Midori No Hibi
Ah My goddess
Trigun
The Twelve Kingdoms

And one of my all-time favourites… TENCHI!

Things on my watch list at the moment:

Gantz
Mezzo
Mezzo Forte
Samurai Gun

I'm in the mood for mature animes atm. Not h movies just stuff thats not meant for kids.

Anyone want to throw some suggestions around then I'm all ears.

Just watched the Appleseed movie and was blown away by some of the CGI, akin to FF:AC. Basically was wondering if there is anything else out there with the same quality CGI, or perhaps in the pipeline?

I am a bit of an anime noob but have been watching a few Ghibli ones recently (Princess Mononoke,Spirited Away and Nausicaa) and really enjoyed them. I have been thinking of purchasing Howls Moving Castle next (£10 hmv), do you guys recommend that, or any other Miyazaki one?

Kaiju, i'm not sure about quite that level of CGI (they were fairly big budget anime films), but Ghost in the Shell SAC tends to have some good CGI at times :)

Una, Porco Russo, The Cat returns, Whisper of the heart and Totoro ;) (although almost any of them would be a good bet)

Totoro... GET IN!

Thanks for the heads up on GITS:SAC <-- :p

Gits always seemed to me that it had CGI for the sake of having CGI and I’m finding it really difficult to get into.
Innocence was a complete disappointment as the whole thing just seemed like an excuse to show what they can do visually without the impact of a good plot.

Last excel is a good example of when CGI is used in conjunction with good animation to give seamless transition between the two.

And BTW, Oh! My Goddess (Aa! Megami-sama) is absolutely fantastic! it's a sea of smiles from beginning to end. Top notch animation and a good character definition but it doesn’t add anything new to the romantic-comedy bit that so overdone these days.

It’s also turning into a bit of a harem anime with yet another character falling head over heals for our clueless hero Keiichi. I’m still undecided however whether or not I like it better then Love-Hina.

Howl's Moving Castle is fantastic, I was lucky enough to see it in the cinema and I loved it - as good as Spirited Away, but in a different way (it's based on an English novel so Europeans won't get that wonderful sense of freshness and defamiliarisation that we got in Spirited Away, though it's still a pretty bizzare story!).

Also, a heads-up for anyone living here up north: they'll be showing Satoshi Kon's new film Paprika at the Leeds Film Festival in November. Link here.

They'll also be showing the Paranoia Agents OVAs in 2 screenings (2 episodes in each screening).

I couldn't disagree more - I think the blending of animation and CGI was perfect to reflect the conflicts going on within each character. It exteriorised the sense of isolation and displacement they felt as they held onto the last vestiges of their humanity in a world dominated by machines. In a more practical sense, it helped jerk the audience's attention back to what they were actually seeing on the screen, as it was quite a slow and introspective film for large parts of it so you tend to be carried away thinking about the implications of what the characters are saying rather than watch what happens next. I thought the plot was fantastic, but it wasn't a traditional movie plot, it was an internal quest going on inside Batou's head. If it wasn't your think then fair enough, but I don't agree that the CGI was there just for the sake of it.

No one has its not been released to the USA or Europe market yet.

I find that hard to believe. It hasn't been licensed here yet.

I saw a fansub yesterday. Very impressive. Shame it's only 40 mins though.

Been watching a lot of Gantz as well, gotta say really impressed with it so far. It goes a lot deeper than you might expect it too.

I appreciate the warning and I won't make mention of it again after this post if it is that taboo. However I fail to see the breach in copyrights or anything of the sort when its not licensed over here. That in mind I don't see where I'm in breach of the rules

Don't make the mistake like I did

Phalanx, I know exactly what's in Mezzo. Those scenes pretty much add nothing to the ova, but given the choice I'd rather have the uncut version, just for the sake of completeness.

The common idea that unlicenced means it's not copyrighted outside of Japan is wrong i'm afraid.

Copyright in Japan is equally valid in the U.K. and U.S. regardless of the licencing situation due to the Bourne convention, which basically states that what is protected by copyright in one signatory country is protected in all signatory countries (basically a "if you recognise our copyrights, we'll recognise yours").

The only thing that tends to change when something is licenced is that the local rights holder can enforce it much cheaper and easier than the Japanese company could (for one thing there isn't the language barrier or a different legal system).

Ah ok. So it would be much more acceptable to discuss something that hasn't been licensed / copyrighted at all, yep?
