Why is there all the hype about Akira? Fortunately for me a friend of mine has it and I was able to borrow it off him and found it to be one of the most overrated films I have watched for a long time. After all he went on about it and what few a reviews said I though it would be ok to good. But it was like torture watching it, so much so it took me three viewings to get through the dvd. The whole film just seemed to drag on and on.

Does anybody know when Ghost in the Shell: Innocence is going to be released on dvd in the uk? I can't find any relevant information as to the release date.

As an aside if anybody is interested on dvdpacific they have GITS:SAC 2nd Gig volume 1 listed as being released on the 27/9/2005 in both normal and SE forms, I for one will be looking forward to getting this.

edit: And while I think of it what the heck happened with R.O.D. TV the first edition came in a book style case with space for the rest of the dvd's and the last edition came with a box that has space for all 7 episodes but not enough space for the book thingy that the first edition come it.

Weird that you like GiTS but not Akira- they're both on really similar wavelengths really, both exploring the boundaries of what it is to be human and at what point you cross over into being something else...

has anybody ever seen Grandiser or Gaiking? they were two animes that i used to watch but i cannot find my vhs's does anybody have any dvd and can they say where they purchased them from?

fiedly, thanks for posting that

/has just ordered the Vol 7 + box
I haven't got ROD yet, but keep meaning to so I thought why not as I can always sit on it for a while until the rest of the series drops in price :D (I did the same for Raxephon)

.

Apparently Madman and Manga both have the rights respectively for Australia and the U.K. and are planning on a release early/mid next year.
The main reason for the delay appears to be becuase unlike Dreamworks they are going to pay for a dub (I don't for one moment beleive DW's line that they released it as a "foreign film" because that is how it was originally made*), and using the same cast as SAC.

*which always begs the question what of GITS, GITS:SAC and GITS:SAC 2nd Gig all of which have/had dubs ;)

It was not the Akira plot that grated so much, but the animation, the way that the characters were drawn and the colours that were used. Just something about it that didn't click for me and considering how I had been lead to expect much more from it.

ROD is just a bit odd, like Genom changed their mind about the packaging half way through, hence I've got 2 different forms of packaging now a box and the book doesn't fit in the edition 7 box, the box takes 7 single dvd cases. One thing I do know is that apparently the first run came with limited edition pencil board (whatever that may be).

Typical, next year oh well just have to wait for it then such is life. I seem to remember that DreamWorks are having financial problems at the moment, which might explain something.

Taken from Roberts Anime Corner Store

Ghost in the Shell, Stand Alone Complex, Vol #7, Special Edition DVD w/ Tin Art Box
(Widescreen DTS Version +Bonus Laughing Man logo XL T-Shirt & Tachicoma Collectors Cards!)

sounds like a nice selection of extras, with the tin being an added bonus considering the set only cost as much as the LE's with one main item :)

/GITS t-shirt count = GITSTC +1:p

Has ayone watched "Now and then, here and there" (available from amazon.com for about £20 delivered for the 4 disc set), I've been watching it for the past few days and have to say it's pretty depressing :(
It's good but depressing for most of it it's also got some bits that are pretty disturbing for an anime imo *Spoilers*Such as Sara getting raped by the soldiers, which you later find out is on orders of the empirer*Spoilers*

P.S.
For anyone wishing to use spoiler tags, the BBCode extension for Firefox is handy, you add a custom tag using *Spoilers*[color=#1c5780] [/color]*Spoilers* or similar (the important parts are in the brackets)

anyone know when in the name of the wee man Hellsing Volume 7 is planned for release. tried googling but it's all amazon pre-orders (with no dates) or DVD fansites.

i'm looking for the graphic novel not the DVD but i guess you lot are most likely to know rather than anyone else.

according to www.Animenewsnetwork.com it looks like Volume 7 will be released in the U.S. on
21/09/2005 by Dark Horse :)

Did you know they are also doing a whole new Hellsing series starting from scratch that wll follow the Manga much more closely than the original series?

huzzah! i've not seen the series yet, was putting off buyying that till i read the books.

and september is much sooner than i was expecting, cheers guv :)

next question, hellsing collection.

2 disc DVD box set, what do the uk discs look like?

i'm looking at ebay auctions and there seem to be 2 types one with a silhoute of alucard on disc 1 and 'police girl' on disc 2 and one with alucard's face on disc 1 and i cant remember what's on disc 2 now....

they are both fake.

The U.K. U.S. and Aus releases are all 4 discs (see the DVD link in my sig for U.K. covers, or look at any DVD retailers).

There are also 4 discs complete sets from all 3 contries, in the case of the U.K. release it's in the same style of box as Firefly (a 4 way M-lock case).
