Right manveruppd this is where things get complicated...

Transformers originally aired as 4 seasons in the US & UK & the timeline went something like this...

Season 1 & 2
The Movie
Season 3 & 4

Season 4 was short & bascially culminated with the three part Headmaster Episode & ended the US saga there.

However in Japan

They were done in the following time scale:

Season 1 & 2
Scramble City OVA (Bridges time between end of season 2 & the movie)
The Movie
Season 3
Headmasters (This replaced the US 4th Season as the Japanese didnt take to the way it finished)
Masterforce (Introduced us to the Power Masters)
Victory (Brought in the Pretenders)
Zone (Single shot was meant to be a series but cancelled after 1 episode :()

As far as where it originated I'm still not 100% sure I do know the toyline was solely a Japanese thing until the time when Hasbro bought out Takara & licensced the toys as Transformers, then the Cartoon followed shortly after.

And like you I feel alienated byt the last few seasons of TF as they just dont seem the same ok they have the same names (Starscream, Prime, Megs, Galvatron, Ironhide, Mirage etc.) they just arent as robotic & having to "Advertise" what their doing all the time ala Pokemon??

Hope that helps to clear some of it up?

i read somewhere that telling you pro's what i like will help you pick something out to get me started - please help - i have far to much spare time on my hands!!!

Defiantly not a pro and have never seen/read Gundam Wing, but here goes anyway. :)

Appleseed the movie, some mecha and written by the same person who wrote Ghost in the Shell so the story is good. Graphically it is amazing, but unfortunately it has not been released in the UK yet, out in September.

Martian Successor Nescado is also very good and very very funny with an interesting plot. But it does look a little dated by modern comparisons.

Neon Genesis Evangelion is complex distilled and put into a series. But it still has to be one the best anime I have ever watched. Without appearing to bash it too much Gasaraki appears to start out as trying to mimic Evangelion but the end result is something totally different.

Lostcorpse, I thought ROD stood for “Read or Die” after the OVA of similar name or is that a coincidence?

Just finished watching "Cowboy Beebop: The Movie"

I'd just like to say... wow.

That is just superbly animated, and such a strong story too. The opening credits are just great, the music was superb and the way just random everyday people were mouthing along to it was great. So beautifully done..

I'm in awe :D

I think the TV series is called Read or Die (i'm sure of it), but one of the episodes is called Dream or Die if memory serves, which may be the cause of confusion.

I've still got to watch Disc 7 tommorow, i've been meaning to for days but got caught up anal probing G-men and Soldiers in Destroy All Humans :p

Quoted for truth :D

If you haven't seen the series yet do so: production values aren't as high but in terms of storyline it's even better!

TBH i'm a litle confussed about the title of R.O.D TV i've heard it maily refered to as Read or Dream, but have also heard it called Red Or Die, So.....

In any event R.O.D TV is still good.
I've just had a look and it seems both may be correct.

Read Or Die is the name of the first OVA and Manga, but Read or Dream seems to be the original name of the TV series.

Finally got my copy of Steamboy:Collector's gift set today, bit annoyed at having to pay £7.42 customs charge  First time since ordering from DVDPacific that thats happened. Oh well. Although i have to say the art book that comes with the set is very nice, with tons of line drawings. Now i just have to find some time to watch it :)

No disagreements there, cracking series.

I did look at various review/listing sites and both titles seem to be used, just goes to figure that, end up even more confused than when I started. But this was found and blatantly stolen from somewhere else to try and explain the situation.
Read or Die OVA - the 3 part OVA
Read or Die ~the novel~ a 9 part book
R.O.D - THE TV- - it is not read or dream/read or die TV. it is just R.O.D
Read or Dream: the manga of R.O.D -THE TV-
Hope that helps all a bit, it did me :) .

Got them thank you very much. Its about now I go into a rant about who ever delivers my mail and just either dumps it on my doorstep or forges my signature so they don't have to make a return visit and then dumps it. Not a happy bunny having 50 quid’s worth of brake parts sitting outside for all and sundry to see/steal.
