Just finished Index series one. It's not gripping me in its actual execution in the way I was hoping it was but I do find the overarcing setting somewhat intriguing and keep hearing railgun is really good so going to keep watching :)

Yep Railgun isn't bad - just finished watching it, however I preferred series one of Index (due to start watching series 2 soon).

I think about the only cosplay someone would ever convince me to do would be something like Lawrence if I had a good Holo, because he wears reasonably ordinary clothes.

I would have to lose a fair bit of weight but i think i could pull off a fairly decent Lawrence, my gf however is the perfect hight, weight and build for Holo. The difference in our hight for example is spot on

:p (Certainly a much better model for Holo then they used for the covers for the book!)

Ooo, my copy of Laputa in BD has shipped :)

Ditto :D

I was just about to post that Laputa is shipping, which means I'll probably finish up whatever disc of Lucky Stars I'm watching when it arrives and take a Laputa break:)

I've also just ordered Tokko complete as it was very cheap and I've not got many new DVD's this month:p

robgmun, definitely cosplay as Lawrance if your GF is willing to do Holo, and post pics :) (assuming you ever go to an anime con:p)

Hahah, well I'm 6'3 or so, of medium/light build so I'd probably fit Lawrence's proportions fairly well.

I'm the sort of guy who generally thinks cosplayers should look the part if they're going to even bother, and I'd probably mark your GF down on the simple basis she's Asian ethnicity, and Holo/Lawrence are one of the few main character combos that come to mind as actually almost certainly of European origin and can be left for us poor Europeans to play haha :)
(Most are either ambiguous or obviously Japanese/Asian)

Like Werewolf says though, if you do ever do it let us know, don't take what I say above as an insult more my sensibilities to do with anything that involves fancy dress [I don't do Halloween either] haha

I know what you mean about cosplayers looking the part, if i ever decide to do it i know my OCD would take over and i would have to make sure that every single detail was perfect,if my gf decides to do it then i would probably end up making the ears/tail myself as i see the ones you can buy as woefully bad. I wouldn't be happy unless she looks like a Holo out of some big budget live action movie adaptation! I would even seriously consider making the tail animatronic! Hence i'm reluctant to go down that route!

I'm 6ft and she's 5ft 2in so the top of her head comes in just under my chin, so if we do it then we'd look the part :D

Finished re-watching Kanamemo this evening. A nice little series about a young girl who gets a live-in job delivering newspapers after the death of her Grandmother, who she was living with. A sweet little anime with some very funny parts, but also sad at times.

Also received today my replacement artbox from NISA for Our Home's Fox Deity pt2. Definite improvement in the artwork in places, the logo on the spine for instance is a lot clearer ... although with my poor eyesight it's difficult to see anything wrong really in other places. They did manage to send it, from the US, and it arrive in better condition, despite being empty, than the original box as well!

Edit ... oh and on the Cosplay front ... there's only one character I could cosplay, (think Genshiken, think the two annoying fanboys at the Comiket type events, think the spherical one) .... and I'm not going to go there ...

Don't you mean comic party since I'm guessing the two annoying fanboys your talking about are the ones named as horizontal guy and vertical guy.

just for those who might be interested, Danny Choo's show, Culture Japan has started on Crunchyroll. Definitely worth watching for anyone who's interested in Otaku culture and japan in general.

Edit: Just finished watching the second episode, i want to go to that Edo Wonderland now :p the ninja stuff had me in stitches.

On the cosplay front, yeah from my own experience, you usually find people fit into one of two categories.

a) They just dress up to join in with the atmosphere, they don't really care about getting it right.

b) People who spend weeks/months on some seriously intricate costumes. There are some seriously dedicated people out there. Hell, the quality of some of the stuff is better than what the official companies manage to churn out in the form of actors in costume at trade/consumer shows. Some of that stuff must cost an arm and a leg to make though, so no wonder they put so much work into it.

I've seen some bizzare and out of play costumes, which boggles the mind. Iirc at the last one i went to a few years ago, there was a guy on the rather plump side dressed up as Mio or Ritsu (can't remember which) from K-On.

If people do want to watch these (and don't follow Danny normally) then this page on his site gives a couple of lines (and a link to Crunchyroll) for each episode so you can see what sort of thing is covered all in one place.

edit: Also note that My Neighbours The Yamadas is shipping on BD now

Very probably, it's been quite a while since I've watch either series :)

Well I'm certain now ('scuse the pathetic picture since I don't have anything set up on my computer to read region 1 discs) besides there were more of those events in comic party then there were in genshiken (don't quote me on that since I've only watched the first season plus the OVA's).

Hey,

I wondered if someone could help me out. I've recently gotten into Naruto, and I quite enjoy it. I was watching them on YouTube, but a site called Crunchyroll have complained and now they have been removed(which is fair enough) however, Crunchyroll themselves won't allow me to veiw the first series of Naruto due to regional rights.

I was up to episode 30 odd I believe, shortly after Naruto completed the 2nd exam that took place in a forest. I think I've found them on DVD but I wanted to check that they are the right ones before I order them.

Naruto Uncut Season 1 V.1 Box Set is what I've found on the rain forest, are they the correct ones?

Thanks for any help.

I can't say I'm a big Naruto fan but i don't think that's what you want. The Naruto Uncut Season X releases are the US releases; the UK releases are Naruto Unleashed - Complete Series X which appear to be marginally cheaper as well.

edit: Series 1 should take you to episode 26. On the half season sets (which were repackaged into the complete series sets) they specifically stated on the box that it included footage which had been cut from the TV broadcast so I wouldn't worry to much about the US release having uncut in the titles while the UK release does not .... although if this is a really big thing for you you might want to research it further (I didn't watch it on TV ever so can't comment).

Nothing could be as horrifying/bizzare as Manfaye - the horror!

Watched an ova called Koi Sento this afternoon, confusing is the best way to describe my impression of it.Sort of a cross between Paprika and gits:innocence visually,Will have to have a rewatch sometime to better follow the storyline/plot i think :)
Finished off the early eve with a few episodes of Hyakko,El Cazador, and mitchiko to hatchin .Rounded off just a few mins ago with hatsukoi
Varied choice for one day I think :D
