That was a cracking installment wasn't it? Certainly made up for endless 8. Althrough i have mix feelings for ever buying season 2 of Haruhi Suzimiya. as i know i won't ever watch 6 episodes of it

It was a good film, (I have the HK BD release), ... it's just a pity if the UK release is delayed.

Reminds me actually, I haven't read the novel of it yet and the next book arrived the other day too ...

Aye, I really liked DoHS, looks great too, plus the little snippet at the very end of the credit made me smile.
They could easily make more [of the books into anime form] based off the back off the film, and thanks to how good it was, most of the old fans would probably let them off for the E8.

Ok, I've had a couple of days leave at the end of last week so watched / re-watched a few things ...

I, My, Me, Strawberry Eggs ... this was a re-watch of a show, now sadly OOP (heck one of my disks is even branded Pioneer instead of Geneon!). This was continuing on from Kashimashi as a bit of a gender bending series. So chap wants to be a teacher but the school he goes for a job at has a faculty which is rabidly anti-men so they refuse to hire him. With a little help from his landlady he cross-dresses and gets a job at the school as a female teacher. There isn't much in the series which is unexpected but it is a very nice, sweet, series with some good humour ... the landlady is one of those Anime Grandmas .... small, violent, gun toting and rides a big motorbike :D Not everyone would like this but I think it's quite nice. (I should note that modern releases could learn from the quality of the disk menus on this release!)

Alison and Lillia - Generation 1 ... this is part 1 of the Sentai release of the show, (I have seen both parts previously). This set covers Alison's story, set 2 will cover Lillias' Nice series which does feel a bit at times like a 1950's adventure novel (although not as badly as Project Blue Earth SOS). Likeable characters and reasonably good stories, some action but not "violent action".

Maid-sama (part 1) ... (aka Kaicho wa Maid-sama). Watched part 1 of this on the Sentai release. Main character is a girl as a fairly rough school. She's the student council president and doesn't take any **** from anyone ... but she has a secret; she works in a maid cafe. She wants this to be kept a secret from everyone at school as it may undermine her position but several people do find out ... with not quite the reactions she was expecting. Quite amusing series with likeable characters. The humour is very similar to series like S.A. Looking forward to the release of the second half.

Ah! My Goddess Season 1 ... re-watch of this classic series. If you are going to have a magical girlfriend then why not go all the way and get a full blown Goddess, (First class, Second category, Unlimited license). Oh for Belldandy to come through my mirror and ask me what I would wish for :) It's a nice (mostly) gentle story with subtle humour and a little (mostly slapstick) action. It does have the worlds most slowly developing relationship (come on Keiichi ... man up!) ... although I suppose it must be hard to concentrate when you may innocently pick up the phone and be talking to the Almighty!

Second season of AMG is being started tomorrow evening ... not sure what I'll be watching during the day though.

Looks like you have had a good day mate :)
Haven't finished maid sama yet about 50% through,I my me started re watching a few weeks back, still ongoing:o
On the second disc of Taisho Baseball Girls this evening,a bit similar to princess nine, set at around 1925 when Japan was becoming more westernised (so the blurb say)
story I am liking, picture quality is a bit poor I.e. drawing style is a little bit primitive by today's standards
the landlady is one of those Anime Grandmas
Grandma ? I will say no more but the ending implies...... :D

Looks like the UK release of Disappearance of Haruhi Suzimiya has been pushed back to October :(

Aye, I got that email as well:(
On the plus side it means I'm not spending quite as much money on anime in June as expected:)

Re Strawberry Eggs, aye that's a bit of a strange/funny series - I think the menus were by "nightjar" who (from memory) had a rep for doing great menus, but I haven't heard anything about them for a while, I suspect with the push to keep costs down now most menus are done in house and to a more basic standard which is unfortunate :(

I really liked AMG as well, I think i've seen all of that is released and yes, it does have the worlds most slowly developing relationship. In fact by the end of season 2 it barely progresses at all in that respect from the end of season 1! I would have liked something happen!

Just watched this last week and rather enjoyed it - yep very 1950's and a bit Tin Tin-esque. For some reason goes very well with a cup of tea and biscuits :D Just started watching Solty Rei.

Finished watching Infinite Stratos this end.
By and large I found it pretty dissapointing. It started off with the potential to be interesting, but descended into mindless harem antics, and a fairly underwhelming 'final boss'.

Animation was alright overall but nothing special, sound was nothing great either.

Obviously you expected to much from Infinite Stratos ... I went in expecting a mid-grade harem comedy with some mecha and that's what we got :)

Watched the latest Iroha earlier which was a good continuation from the last episode.

Also watched Hyakka Ryouran Samurai Girls as well. Reasonable good series with plenty of fighting, oppai and some comedy. Interesting stuff with some hi-tech stuff, i.e. the series isn't set in the past, despite the samurai theme, but instead in an alternate world. The art style, takes some getting used to ... it's not as smooth and detailed as a normal modern series but you get used to it and it works quite well. I wont say that I loved the series but it was a pretty reasonable watch.

I wasn't actually expected anything great, I just found it distinctly underwhelming. It wasn't particularly funny, there wasn't much characterisation, obviously not a huge story as it was a 1 cour. I just didn't find myself being given much to really care about any of the characters; and surely the whole point of Harem is to like the cast enough to root for one/some of them. I think they'd have been better eliminating one or two of the Harem, and giving the others more time to grow on the viewer.

I'm not expecting too much from Yumeki Merry either which I started last night, but so far thats looking a lot more interesting and better done than IS.

I don't like Houki, that's all I can say about Infinite Stratos. :p

Sengoku Otome Momoiro Paradox tends to contiune on from Hyakka with the whole theme of the females being the historical figures yet again. At least this time this is set in the actual period, and ironically Nobunaga is portray in kind of a good light which is rare either way.

Don't like Houki ?!?!?! ... she's my favourite of the female characters in the series (although Chifuyu is a close second) ;)

Sengoku Otome Momoiro Paradox is in my "things to watch once they have completed airing" pile at the moment.

My copy of the first volume of k-on turned up yesterday and in my own opinion it was worth not waiting for manga to pull their fingers out of their backsides and release it over here (although I'll be double dipping for the BD collection when it comes out next year and most likely triple dipping if what I've heard about the songs is true).

Finished re-watching the second season of AMG last night ... I always remember with the AMG series' how irritating the lack of movement in the main relationship is and forget how enjoyable the actual series' are. Whilst the series has it's flaws it is a good fun watch.

Also finished reading the original book for The Girl Who Leapt Through Time yesterday. It's not a big book and TGWLTT part of it only really covers the first half, (the second half is really the main character playing amateur psychologist to her and her brothers fears to try and overcome them). So how does it compare with the films?

I would say that the live action film fits better as a possible sequel to the book than the animated film. Whilst the anime does imply that the main characters aunt could be the character from the book the method used for leaping is quite a bit different and the stories don't really mesh that well. The live action film, (Time Traveller), fits a lot better as a sequel to the book with similarities between the method for leaping and stories which could be seen to follow on, (the main character in the film would be the daughter of the main character in the book). It's not exact, but it would be a better fit.

But which is best? ... personally I'd say:

Anime film > Live action film > Book

The anime film is more an updating and retelling of the story and seems fuller overall. The live action film is ok but the book is pretty short and weak overall. The book is also very simplistic in it's story. It's worth a read if you have a access to a copy but I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to read it.

Just a bit of an update from my previous post about this. Last night i watched the AMG:Movie from 2000 and it was great! I have avoided it before because i thought it wasn't part of the series cannon but it fitted in perfectly with it.

Whats the most interesting thing about it is that by pure accident i watched it at the right time, it has to watched after season 2 for the TV series as it's set right after that. With what was going on it made perfect sense to me. I'm sure if i watched it first as it was made before the TV series then i would have been utterly confused on what was going on in front of me.

Well worth watching then but wait until you finish the TV series as it stands to get the most out of it.

Yeah, the AMG film is quite good. Wasn't to keen on the original OVAs though. I don't think I've got around to watching the newer OVAs.

Any sign of a bleach movie release yet :D

I believe that I specified how to find that out for yourself the last time you asked .... anyway, the DVD isn't due until 24th August in Japan so doubtful.
