Finished Myself;Yourself this evening, just in time as I go away on Friday. I can see why you liked it Andi, it doesn't have quite the clout of say Toradora, Clannad or Kanon at their peak, but overall its a nice little drama series, and probably one of the better visual novel adaptations I've seen; based on MAL's rating of 7 being good and 8 being very good, I'd give it a 7-7.5.

I don't think it'll be hitting my favourites shortlist but certainly not something I felt like I'd wasted time watching. Aoi's voice was a bit.... after a while lol

(By contrast I rated Yumekui a solid 7 as it starts off very good for what it is but flags at the end, and I.S a 4/5)

Watched the English dub of K-on! vol 1 last night
Don`t think I will be watching the other vols in English,Yui`s voice just did not sound right, perhaps I have been accustomed to the Japanese voices?Although I usually like the Dub voices too .Took me a few episodes to get into this series (especially the op from the second series)now I have that on my travel playlist :D

Vaguely related but recently my brother grabbed one of videos out there of one of the Animelo concerts from Japan.

I wandered through whilst he was looking, and seems I timed it well. I know Aya Hirano has a substantial fanbase; but there was a performance where she was performing Discotheque with Nana Mizuki side by side, and gotta say, she was laughably outshone; Nana made her look pretty amatuer by comparison; her voice was just no where near as good :D

Made me chuckle a little :)
It probably wouldn't have been a bad live performance if she hadn't been dueting, but the contrast was pretty clear. Nana just had the much better voice; and vocal control, plus I've seen this a couple of times on recordings of live performances from Hirano; she seems to have a really bad habit of adding a Vibrato effect to what she's singing live, whether it's necessary (or even sounds right) or not; its as though she's not 100% sure on how or when she should use it, so she just uses it whenever.

Yui`s voice just did not sound right

Yui's English VA seemed to have lost the plot in the first episode since there wasn't any consistency in the characters voice since there was certain vocal expressions that reminded me of other characters from other series.

@Alex ... can't say that my opinion on Hirano is particularly high either; and she does appear to be a bit mentally odd at times ...

Finished re-watching Seitokai no Ichizon tonight. Rather odd series which revolves around a Student Council who ... well, don't really do much. The council is made up of the usual collection of stereotypes; the loli one, the sporty one, the weak Yaoi-liking one and the dark and dangerous one :) ... added to this is the male character who considers them his harem (and gets put in his place over this forcibly and frequently). But as things go on you find out more about the characters and you gradually form a better opinion of (some of) them.

Early on in the series there are quite few thinly veiled references to other series which are quite amusing and even a whole animated sequence taking off Strike Witches. The ED credit animations and songs are good too.

Overall I like the series but it does lack a spark for me to make it truly good. Whilst the characters do become a bit fuller eventually there is two much repetition of the same comedy elements which does take the edge off after a while. This repetition means that there is to little variation on what happens in each episode which means that the series feels overall that it does really have a plot at all.

Aye :(

I'm just watching Utena at the moment, and it's sad to hear of her passing, she also voiced Athena in A** from memory :(

RIP, yep she was in A__a and looking at Wiki lots of other good series.

I see Arietty has a release date of 29th July '11 according to Optimum Releasing ... I assume that that's for the cinema release not the home media release ...

My god that really is sad news.

Going to be missed surely whenever there is another anime adaptation of a Key game since she voiced main or significant characters.

Shame younger than me,died of ovarian cancer apparently and hospitalised since 2008
RIP

A young age to go :(. Just been looking at some of her other credits, didn't realise she was Misuzu in Air, or the Girl from the Illusionary World in Clannad.

R.I.P

On a more cheerful note, been keeping up with this season's stuff.

A-Channel - Good fun now, don't know why i hated it to start with.

Denpa Onna - This is still completely all over the place, althouigh the characters are interesting for some strange reason. The character designs are quite good as well i think.

Anno Hana - Another one thats all over the place. I think it's fallen into that all to common story trap that lots of anime series fall into. You know the one where it takes ages to explain something, and then they don't even explain stuff well, and you have to suspend your disbelief.

it started off with a good premise, but it's gone down a bit in my opinion. It's still good, and enjoyable to watch but, it's not spectacular.

Stein's Gate - I was catching up on this the other day, the dialogue and intereactions between the different chracters is entertaining to watch. They all have interesting personalities. The game was rated highly for it's dialogue and voicework, so I'm not surprised.

Iroha - Again another one that's still enjoyable to watch, but it is meandering a bit. But there is plenty of time left for it to sort itself out i hope.

I finally got round to watching the first episode of Deadman Wonderland last night on ANN, which has got me interested in it :)

I also finished off the first Utena set last night which was very enjoyable, if a little formulaic in places.

Next up if finishing off a rewatch of Eden of the East followed by the first film (which arrived yesterday).

I'm not sure I'd say that Anno Hana jumps around ... quite the opposite I thought that the story so far is pretty coherent, I do think that they need to move forward a bit faster though as it still seems to be progressing very slowly ...

Denpa ... this is still all over the place and I still have no idea where it is going ...

Iroha ... still loving this ...

A**a The Scarlett Ammo ... this is rather weaker than I expected overall so far ...

A Bridge To The Starry Skies ... it's still all right in a generic harem sort of way ...

A Channel ... I like this in a laid back sort of way ...

Have been watching a few other things over the last couple of days ...

Gauken Utopia Manabi Straight ... I like this series ... I really like this series ... yes it's art style for the characters takes a bit of getting used to but the plot itself is nice, coherent and fits nicely into a single cour series. It's another series about a student council but in this case the series is set in the future where falling birth rate and other changes means that schools are struggling to maintain their student councils. With the school in this the council has fallen to just a secretary, who is shy and timid, when a transfer student comes in and shakes things up. The series basically covers them, and the others helping them, trying to arrange a school festival and has plenty of highs but also plenty of emotional lows and a pretty good soundtrack.

Night Raid ... this was an interesting series. It's a drama series about the Japanese in China in 1930's. Quite a bit of action, a little humour, and some psychic powers. It's an interesting series but could have probably done with being two cours to come to it's full potential.

Finally got around to starting Death Note, up to episode 5 and loving it so far. Does it continue at this high standard?

I'd say just carry on and don't expect too much. It has it's up and downs, but all I can say is once you reach a certain critical point around half way of the series, then it starts to change.

After a certain point in the story it goes downhill. You will know where I mean when you reach it. Still worth watching all the way through though.
