No worries. :)

It is better than some but I still find English voice actors pale in comparison to Japanese voice actors.

I find it quite concerning that Nitefly and Robbo deem a female figure that isn't drawn explicitly at all, paedophillic.

It's incredibly tame and I don't understand the opinion at all.

But live and let live I suppose. :)

Paeodophilic is certainly debatable and arguably a rather harsh assesment, but I don't think I'd be able to post certain screen caps on OCUK without a slap on the wrist, so I'm not entirely sure about 'isn't drawn explicitly' :p

Indeed, each to their own!

True I think the implication has more to do with it; I remember initially finding some of it a little uncomfortable until some more of the facts came out.
 
But it isn't drawn explicitly, there is no nipples or detail in the nether region! :p

Do you deem life drawings sexually explicit also?

Of course it is debatable, you're percieving a half wolf half human animation as paedophillic because she is naked and looks young.

I don't see anybody getting their rocks off with this. The only person to bring it up (as sexually explicit) is you and is, in my mind, shows how your mind works. No one else is sexualising her other than yourself. Why does it have to be a negative thing such as paedophilia and not a natural or beautiful thing to appreciate the art work. Which judging by other posts - the nudity - doesn't happen for very long.

I don't normally watch ANY pop videos if I get the choice, but off the top of my head Britney Spears in some of her early videos, when she was still around 16-17, was wearing outfits that revealed every bit as much as the scenes in Spice and Wolf that you mention. The whole issue is context though: the nudity isn't gratuitous, it's necessary for the plot and for character development, in that we see the girl using her sudden naked appearance and her flirty banter to unnerve and confuse the guy and get him to agree to her terms (and we also see that she's the type of person who has no moral qualms about using her sexuality to get her own way). It also kind of makes sense doesn't it? I mean, she just transformed from a wolf, was she gonna weave a pair of pants out of her fur? I feel a bit silly arguing this as if a wolf turning human is perfectly reasonable by contrast, but it kinda makes sense to me, honestly! :p

Let me just make something clear. I'm not calling anyone a paedophile nor suggesting you find that sort of thing remotely interesting, but I'm sure Anime has been a bit of a 'legal outlet' for the more disturbed members of society... perhaps.

Again, I'm just guessing but surely you can see where that perception comes from?

If not then fair enough :p
 
Well you know pornographics images are censored in Japan, right?

That law caused animators to use creepy fan service (tenticles, bondage etc.) to entice people into it. Some like it, others detest it.

However, I don't see how Spice & Wolf applies here as it's quite tame.

erm even the animated hentai is censored in the same way. I have actually walked out of shops in Japan, particularly those selling fan made, unofficial, books as the content on sale looked way to dubious to me ... but that sort of thing isn't licensed in the UK or US and the things that are, such as Spice and Wolf, are nowhere near the same level.

Personally "tentacle porn" does nothing for me ...
 
I've been reading some of these posts about how bad S&W is, and have been wondering if it's the same series I've seen ;)

IIRC as memyselfandi says, even animated porn is censored in Japan, although the animators do often have an uncensored version for sale in the US.


On a completely different topic, I've somehow managed to watch 8 episodess of Claymore which I'm enjoying, although ep 8 was a bit sad.

Obviously I haven't seen the whole series so I can't comment on it myself, but based on what I've read in this thread and elsewhere, I'm inclined to believe that sexuality isn't a core theme of the series as a whole.
 
But if it isn't then why throw it in at all? Are you telling me the boxart isn't trying to show a venerable lithe young female character? Hardly a typical western werewolf is it? Especially the season 1 cover. Look at the symbolic colours, pose and eyes. Seriously you can downplay it by saying its not as extreme as x y or z but in isolation to someone who hasn't been desensitized its pretty creepy/pervo.

The story is pretty tame, they need these visual hooks to keep lustful males interested - in this case drip feeding just enough without taking it to the next level.
 
Ok guys, getting the anime twitch as I have not watched any for a while... into sci-fi, cyberpunk, mecha stuff...

Watched most of the usual such as GITS (all of them) Patlabor, Appleseed... just looking for something that I might not have watched..

TTGL (Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann), Cowboy Bebop, Samurai 7, Macross Zero plenty more I will only remember once I get home!
 
I could recommend a couple of the gundam series, especially Wing which i loved when i was younger though I'm doubtful the story itself has aged well
