Yowch, that's....errrr...quite a bit; are those raw rips or reencoded? (DVD MPEG2 to H264 can make a big difference).
Have to admit I'm considering buying another 2TB drive though, as my drive is beginning to run out of space and having to delete things. Move the drive I've already got to internal and put a new one in the external chassis (easier to move stuff around that way as I dont have GB ethernet all round right now) and job done.

Eventual plan is to link everything together via GbE though so I can do a lot of stuff remotely via one PC and remote desktop etc :)
Raw rips 100%.Too large i know but i like the idea that if the dvd ever `peels it layer`i have a 100% backup.(It has only happened to me twice but still)
Got to be honest and say only about 5TB is dvd rips :o
That is not counting my Backup pc which has around 6TB of files I have collected over the years that i would not like to have to search out again
Re watching Angel Beats tonight,English dub which is not half bad if i say so myself.Still a bit weird referring to `Tenshi` as Angel though(and yes i do know that tenshi is Japanese for angel :) )

Rip em all to HDD?
It`s What I do.Although i have no where near the amount you guys have on dvd ,last count I was up to 14 TB of dvd rips and samples ;)
Gonna need a bigger htpc case or something like an extra server before long

I'd love to rip all mine and re-encode to h264. Would make it all immediately available through Plex anywhere in the house as it's all gigabit lan'ed with central storage ... but it's getting acceptable results with subtitles when doing it off media ... not had much luck with that. Just ripping the media and playing back of ISOs just isn't going to work capacity wise at this point :)

Also where do you all buy your anime from i really can't find anywhere decent :p

As Alex says really. I'd tend to avoid United Publications for UK releases as they can be more expensive than other UK retailers but tend to be pretty decent for US releases. TRSI tend to be slightly cheaper for US releases but tend to take longer shipping and only ship international orders to the credit card address. Amazon US can have some quite good deals too.

If you are looking for real exotic stuff then Yesasia and Playasia can be quite good as can Amazon JP (although the latter will give you a reaming on shipping as they only send via courier). Note that Yesasia's size can mean that occasionally some bootlegs slip in so you need to know what you are going to really order from them.

I've decided to give an anime series a whirl for the first time and opted for Cowboy Bebop.

The first two episodes were fairly meh, but it's got better. On episode 5 now.

Bebop is a great one to start with, especially as it goes on and the whole team meets up (IIRC that doesn't happen till ep 9), you'll probably want to try and watch Knocking on Heavens Door (the movie) after the series :)
Episode 11 (toys in the attic) is one of my favourite episodes.

Jonnycakes, I think most of my regular places have been mentioned, about the only one that I don't think has been suggested is www.anime-on-line.com which is part of the MVM group (who release anime themselves), whilst their prices aren't always great their CS is usually good, and they sometimes have some very good deals on clearance stuff :)

It's also well worth looking at Zavvi, and the hut at the moment, as I beleive they are both doing offers on a lot of Manga titles (I picked up 4x complete series, including a couple of recent ones for about £30).

Cowboy Bebop was one of my first anime series ... the start of a slippery slope really .... ;)

From the discussions the other day on the live action Yamato film, I see that the HK DVD and BD releases are out at the end of the week and apparently include English subtitles.

Bebop is great, I still need to watch the movie though.

Started episode 1 of Serial Experiments Lain again, fantastic anime that's not for the impatient or slow witted. :p

Watching Tsubasa Reservoir chronicle so far and it reminds me of .hack series especially with the music scores. Which i absolutely love the .hack shows so when i got round to watching this it was a nice to see similarities. :)

Watching Mushi-Shi as well and damn its nice and melow series but damn the girl with the eyes, the scene where the mushi come out of the eyes was bloody scary looking and im not easily shocked. :D

Gave up after first ep of Ga-Rei Zero. Just didnt like it and i checked a few eps out and still dont think i like the way it was going to go. I thought it was gona be more highschool stuff than action which is why i got it. :(

After this stuff i have Soul Eater, then Air, Azumanga Daioh and then gatekeepers to try.

About bebop, when i first head of the word many years ago i thought it was a anime about the bebop from TMHT :D When i got round to it eventually it wasnt based on that but somit else and cool. But i must admit i hated the first ep, it was really long and boring imo. It picked up great after some episodes in tho.

Oh and i got Kanokon in eng dub to get through as well. :)

After watching Bebop I would recommend Trigun. Those two and to a certain extent Outlaw Star are what got me back into anime when they came out.

Just started watching Deadman Wonderland last night - pretty good so far!

IIRC Outlaw Star, Tenchi Muyo (OVA's, Universe, Tokyo), and Bebop were on a Sky channel for about 9 months (CNX?) but were dropped when it became apparent that random HK live action Martial arts flicks did better than the same handful of series shown repeatedly.

I don't think C4 have shown an anime series since the 90's.

Tbh i think the only stuff that really does well on UK tv is the more family oriented stuff, like Naruto and the odd Ghibli film that is either put on channel 4/film four at some obscure hour, or on a bbc channel in the morning/early afternoon on holidays.

*Looks back fondly at the tv anime boom of the late 90's/2000's"

Probably because, comparatively to the states or some other countries, outside the major cities there's not a major stronghold or following here :(

Most people I know still stereotype as iffy or stuff like pokemon/digimon because they simply don't know any better.

Edinburgh has a large convention for Anime fans.

It was advertised on bus stops too, surprisingly. Had the main protagonist from Tri-gun as their advert I believe.

If that was aimed at me, the key point was 'outside the major cities' :D
Last I checked, Edinburgh/Glasgow/London are major, as I know there's a couple of conventions that happen in London, not sure if I heard about one in Bristol or Birmingham too, but beyond that...well, I don't think I've EVER seen a shop aimed at this market when driving around/visiting places, as an example.

Comics/Games/Cars/Camping/Fishing etc etc yes, anime/manga/imports...nope. Much smaller market here I guess. Even my local booksellers from the large chains only have fairly small sections (which tend to pile together all graphic novels, not just manga), if they have one at all.

Hey, at 300k living in Edinburgh, we're barely a city. ;)

But you're right because we are a popular city we do get people who stock manga books. Mainly FP.

Maybe a bit off-topic, but anyone got any hints for sourcing Japanese-language manga books/comics in the UK? I'm interested in picking a few up to put a bit of fun/novelty into my kanji and vocabulary work.

Thing is, I've searched for the terms in Google, but only found a small handful of shops with fairly paltry stock and most seem to be either very expensive, stock only English language books, or charge the Earth for delivery.
